Anthony Spencer vs. Victor Butler: A quick look at the numbers
I know that some of you are for tagging Spencer, some are against it. I know Butler has his weaknesses (run game, etc), but I really don't think there's much of a dropoff to him from Spencer, and certainly not enough of a dropoff to warrant paying Spencer $8.8 million. Now, to be clear, I'm not saying Butler is the answer. Just noting the numbers.

the 2009 #'s for Spencer are wrong
he has never had more than 6 sacks in a season, it says he has 8 on your article

if it wasnt for that little run he had i think he probably would have been replace by then..
Spencer is ok but hes not great or elite. I would not tag him or give him top money.
I know Spencer has cost dallas a few games and really isnt a threat as a pass rusher..
U mean take all you want about Spencer the ttfl and etc.. an olb us graded by one thing and thats sacks..

he has few a year...
As a first rounder chia i agree the guy is a bust. If he was a 2 nd rounder or lower then i would say he was not a bust..
Dallas could have waited on Spencer and keep the extra pics

if we took him in the 2nd round
and didnt trade those picks, I would be fine with that

Comparing the two is nice, but Butler is not a potential replacement for Spencer
Most of Butler’s snaps came when he subbed for Ware on the weak side. This is where he was used on 1st and 2nd downs as well. When he did occasionally move to Spencer’s strong side, this was almost exclusively on third downs.
The coaches, so far, do not trust Butler against the run. He may perhaps be a better pass rusher than Spencer, and looks to have a better first step, but he is not an option on the strong side in Dallas’ scheme, where teams naturally like to run more often.
Having said that, as long as a guy is a good pass rusher, I coudn’t care less whether he gives up 3.8 or 4.2 yards per attempt against the run. It’s a passing league, and getting to the QB is the name of the game.

I am taking the CC approach
And dropping out of any further discussion on Spencer, tired of it and just don’t care that much either way any more. It’s just a subject that has such a disproportional amount of attention than it’s worth.

yeah I really wanted to stop talking about Spencer, but I still find myself talking about Spencer
TD, but I am with you, I just don’t care anymore, it’s beyond my hands

Does everyone realize that Butler and Spencer
are the same athletically? Look it up. We would be going from “Almost Anthony” to “Not Quite Butler”…
Well I'm glad you feel that way. I guess we don't have to worry about resigning Spencer then
if we already have his carbon copy on the roster.
If I had a nickel for every Super Bowl the Eagles have won, I would have zero nickels.

Has nothing to do with what I feel
its just a matter of fact. Neither have very impressive marks.
That being said there is not much of a realistic chance of a reasonable upgrade this year over either, except possibly through the draft.

I'm ready to audition Victor Butler
OLB is a position that some other franchises (ahem) turn mid round picks in to all-pros. I think Butler has a chance, and will at least be similar to Anthony Spencer. I also think Alex Albright has a chance to be very good. Dallas should acquire a new young guy to develop and let these other players, Albright and Butler, move up the depth chart

Second!
How are you ever really gonna know if you dont put him? He’s been sitting on the bench for 3 years now. At least give him 400-500 snaps.
