With the Cowboys, I don’t think it’s a matter of if. Fairly cut and dry. It’s pretty much a lock they have one coming their way.
Why doesn't Coleman count against the pick?
They lost Sam and Bowen and signed Coleman and Elam.
Position doesn't matter
it is the size of the contracts signed by the new team. So in order to forfeit our 4th round compensatory pick, we would have to have signed a player to an equal or greater contract than the one Bowen signed with the ’skins. Whether that is a Safety, QB, CB, LB, etc. Plain and simple that is how it is, and no one we signed came even close to the contract Bowen signed, so yeah, we get one for Bowen.
However guys like Hurd were signed for like 700K or something like that and Elam and Coleman both had contracts equal or greater than him, so no comp. pick for Hurd or any of the others. Cut players also will not count toward that either.

That'd be great.
If we get an extra 4th, I’d be looking to trade our original 4th to move up a few spots in the 2nd or 3rd to grab a falling prospect.
yeah I wouldn't mind that

Can you predict the # of the pick we would be getting with the comped 4th?

it depends really
IF the Article is correct about the picks, then there will be three picks at the end of Round 3(picks 97,98,99)
then there will be 7 picks for the 4th round(picks129- 135)….Dallas’ pick will be somewhere in there…..most likely ~131st pick….
Here’s a theoretical play from 2010: Snap. Tony takes 7 step drop. Tony looks left at Miles, who is doubled, and looks right to where Roy Williams should be…but instead sees Colombo on his back and a Defensive End foaming at the mouth jumping over Marc’s carcass. Tony proceeds to run like hell and look for Witten

Now, if somebody doesn’t agree with that, that’s cool. I also don’t agree with the fact that I don’t have $10 million in my bank account. But the fact that I don’t agree with it doesn’t make it any less true.

It all goes by the strength of schedule thing
so by most cases the order of the comp picks will be similar to how the first round played out as far as which team drafted highest…
