Stop Lurking And Join The Fun On BTB Today

There is no Dallas Cowboys News today. And it'll probably be a while before anything of note happens. Today is all about our hated division rival, the Giants, and another team from the Northeast that are playing some kind of game, in Indianapolis of all places.

Yet here you are. On a Cowboys site, trying to read up on the Cowboys on a day where absolutely nothing newsworthy is going to emerge about the Cowboys. That probably makes you a pretty die-hard Cowboys fan. And the chances are good that you have not yet joined our fine community at Blogging The Boys, much less posted a comment.

Over the last seven months, we've averaged about 600,000 visitors and 1,300,000 page views each month, yet we only have about 11,000 members signed up for BTB. So today, we're asking you to stop lurking and join us on BTB. Here are some of the main reasons why you should join today:

Star-divide

  • It will make visiting BTB much more fun. Instead of just reading and thinking things over by yourself, you'll be articulating your own opinion and debating it with others in the comments section or in the FanPosts.
  • It will make you a better fan. As regular readers stick around to comment, the community grows, and the discussion flourishes. Before you know it, you'll turn into an expert on the team, even if that's not what you were aiming for.
  • It's not going to cost you a single cent. You'll have more fun, you'll become much more knowledgeable and it's 100% free. How can you not sign up for that?
  • Today only - get immediate access. Usually, there's a 24-hour waiting period to start commenting on BTB after you sign up, it helps to keep the trolls away. But for today only, we are waiving that so you can comment immediately.

I trust that once you join, you'll find that BTB is not dominated by hyperventilanting ranters and blind homers. Instead, I hope you'll find people who analyze, think about, and discuss things without getting too abusive of one another, and who are frequently just hilarious.

Best of all though, once you sign up (follow this link to sign up for an account on BTB), introduce yourself in the comments below, and the BTB welcoming committee will turn out in full force to welcome you. You'll find that a part of that 'welcome' includes turning your initial comment green ...

For our existing members, I'd ask to you welcome our newbies, and to answer the following question in the comments below:

What made you join Blogging The Boys?

Am I the first? What an honor!

I joined BTB because I had been wondering in the net looking for a place to talk about the cowboys. Mothership was so bad I didn’t want to even try that and cowboys nation seemed like a too much of a one man show (nothing against raf). This place was so intelligent and people really talked about things in a “professional” way. I kinda stalked here for a year and then had the courage to sign in and start commenting on stuff.

We look forward to your insight and love for our Cowboys. Now head over to the punch bowl and get some Kool-Aid; it’s blue of course!

Best place to share thoughts and get insight on the Dallas Cowboys. Thanks to all the writers and fans for a good, informative time!

Being a Cowboy fan in Washington DC

Started as a Cowboy’s fan in the midwest and then the family moved to DC in the 70’s. I couldnt drink the kool-aide and root for George Allen and the DeadSkins. Joined BTB to get my Cowboy’s fix.

Welcome!

I lived in Annapolis for awhile, and I swear I saw as many Cowboys stars on cars as I did Redskins. It is an interesting football dynamic around there though, with the Ravens and Redskins mashed together.

I joined because they always ask a question at the end of their articles here

Makes me feel like someone’s talking to me.

But seriously, folks. The reason to visit BTB is that it has the best in-depth, Cowboys focused analysis on the web. It’s not your usual talk-radio bluster. Sure, there’s some kool-aid drinking, but at the end of the day you get a researched, no punches pulled look at your favorite team.

The reason to join goes part and parcel with that. The folks who patronize the site are the type of folks who appreciate that sort of thing and who go into debates and discussions with the same attitude. All fans who educate themselves about the team and the game and and make interesting, well-reasoned, and occasionally even funny points about the Cowboys.

with the exception of the night right after a tough loss

there is good spirited debate with a good balance pessimists and optimists, and because most people here follow the Cowboys with an intense passion, there is a more informed opinon here than in most of the media.

I joined for several reasons….
#1: because there is new relevant news on the Cowboys every day
#2: articles have insight, not paid for cause they have to write articles
#3: fans here don’t bitch about everything, they actually like & support this team
#4: you don’t have to sign in to read an article, I only do when I want to reply (sorry)!
#5: geez im done, gimme a break, its Sunday :)

A friend recommended this site, and I've never looked back. It's one of the few places

on the internet where I can have a rational conversation about the Cowboys. The writers here constantly look beyond what passes for conventional wisdom and provide fresh points of view.

I think KD says it best,

This is the best collection of cowboys writers never to have access to a locker room. I recommend anyone thing about joining to dive right in and join this community, as it truly is the best of the best on here. Largely responsible for the breath of knowledge and diverse views and opinions on this board. So please help us keep that momentum going, and those idea’s flowing

I joined for 2 reasons

1) This community doesn’t put up with personal attacks and other gutter-trash behavior you find other places online
2) The level is discourse about football is the highest I’ve found. I’ve learned and grown in my thinking of the sport and what makes a successful franchise so much since joining. With this much assembled knowledge it makes for fascinating conversations that go way past the simplistic platitudes you find elsewhere.

What makes BTB great is you have a bunch of very smart passionate fans in a community where everyone respects each other.

I do like that the language is generally clean

swearing only makes yourself look dumb and overly emotional. I’ve only sworn once or twice (after a loss of course), and I believe it got deleted, as it should have.

Same here.

The fact that an online community can discuss anything without degenerating into insults is impressive. Add in that we are dicussing the Cowboys, which all of us feel quite strongly about, and it is amazing.

The internet’s anonymity seems to breed bad behavior, so I appreciate an adult approach to blogging. I also like the fact that while I get a chance to learn from some very bright posters, if you bring weak stuff someone will call you out. Keeps you on top of your game.

Various definitions of "pander":
: to act as a pander; especially : to provide gratification for others’ desires
pander to someone/something to do or say what someone wants in order to please them, even though you know it is not right

Per my very own Funk and Wagnall:

1. A go-between in sexual intrigues; a procurerer; pimp.
2. One who ministers to the passions or base desire of others.

In what sense does inviting more people to join and participate meet these definitions?

by BlueNSilverBlood on Feb 5, 2012 11:00 PM CST up reply actions

Meets the first 2 you provide...

… and #2 in your very own Funk and Wagnall’s.

Plus, “to cater, esp basely, to the tastes and desires of others or exploit their weaknesses” including “function as a procurer”, on top of which “esp in order to make money” applies.

Thinking each reader hasn’t a weakness for the Cowboys, info on same and that Vox Media doesn’t derive revenue from BtB and other SB nation sites would be naive, at best. That the FP writers may not be emplotyees and personally derive financial renumeration is irrelevant. It’s the very basis of the financial aspects of much of the modern social media (and more) business model.

That's one small step...

I don't have any problem with a little

pandering or self-recognition. I’ve been around the web enough to know that this place is pretty special – more a community than a collection of strangers (although some are stranger than others). I mean think about the out-pouring of support when DalaiLuke was incarcerated for opium or philandering or something. It was a poignant BTB moment…

Dave I have a lot of fun on this site.

I am always amazed at the difference of opinions on this site. We all want the end result to be the same but how we get there differs greatly.

I think more objective writing from the headline guys are in order. Rabble and KD seem to be the most objective and willing to call a spade a spade.

The fanpost articles are what makes this site so good. They easily define how deep some understand the game.

Kudo’s to you Dave for having such a great place to visit.

i know on the White Sox blog they meet up frequently before games

some even take road trips to opposing stadiums as mini-documentaries and give us a tour through their eyes.

on the Nets blog they were able to get a NetsDaily section created for them because of how poor attendance is at Nets games and they got group discounts and such and even offered special season ticket packages

yeah its a great idea to help break the 4th wall if everyone met up to tailgate and tried to purchase tickets in the same general area and cheered their heads off

Joined the blog in december

joined a few months ago, after reading the blog for a couple of years. OCC already welcomed me in my native language, Swiss-German.

Living in Switzerland, the internet is basically my only option to read about the Cowboys and I’m glad I found this blog. Besides all the news that I enjoy reading, I think I have learned a lot about football in general in all the great posts. Also, the draft preview posts by the front page writers and ChiaCrack, to name one of the fanposters, are very interesting to me as the draft is one of my favorite events of the NFL year.

Now I’m getting ready to go and watch the Superbowl with some friends. Let’s hope this time next year I’m getting ready to watch a Cowboys game!

It has been almost 3yrs since I joined.

The talk at the mothership was usually nonsense and abusive at that. Went looking for a new site. The articles by Dave and Raf were excellent and the discussion was quite civil. Most here love the Cowboys and though we may disagreee how to get back to the big game we all want to get there. The writers and posters here are great. Thanks BTB

Welcome Newbies!!! Rec for all of you!

Why I joined the BTB? Hmmm… being a life-time fan I had read an article one day from yahoo that had a link to the BTB. That was back in July.. of 2010. I lurked in and out for maybe a year and then made a comment on one of the fan post by Tom Ryle (and I’m really glad you became a front page writer Tom) He really got me to hang around and become a part of the community. Thank you BTB!

Welcome everybody!

I joined BtB because I enjoyed the community and really wanted to be a part of it. Even though I live in the DFW are, I don’t have any friends that are Cowboys fans. It’s great to be able to talk things over with fellow fans that are just as crazy as you are. My life has been crazy lately, so I haven’t had much time for commenting, but I make it a point to come here every day and at least read the front page articles because the football knowledge here is second to none.

When I grew up!

The Cowboys were everything in Texas… I lived in Arlington initially.. then moved to Texarkana in 1972… there wasn’t a Texan alive that wasn’t a Cowboys fan. Now the social media outlets, ESPN, and a hundred of other avenues broadcast lies, trash, and crap for everyone to accept as fact. You want the real news about the Cowboys… just come to the BTB!

I agree

I’m a native Texan, and you are right about how the fans here used to be. Funny thing is that I think I know more Cowboy fans in South Carolina now than here in my own home town. If you want the truth read the BTB articles and forget ESPN.

I should have bragged that I could recite the roster during the season, not with all the free agents on the roster. I did remember that Mat McBriar attend Hawaii but I did not recall the other two…it was easy to access a Star magazine and see that Braston Satele and Mana Silva also went to College there.

This is one of the few places I really trust on Cowboys news

not only on the front page but also in the comments section. The national media doesn’t follow them like we do. You rarely see senseless swearing or name calling, and the debate is civilized. There is also a good balance of optimists and pessimists, but everyone wants the same thing!

I was actually reading Hogs Haven back in the day, when they had quality writers! (My buddy, was one of them) Then he’s like you know they have sites like this for all the football teams. I lurked a while and just had to join in on a deke and terry conversation I think one day. Dave’s articles were great. And then SBNation made a great new change and as always remember

well being a cowboys fan you dont need a community like this to find fans, just walk into a local sports bar(lol)

for me it was trying to find New Jersey Nets after I left New Jersey. I had no clue what SBNation was even though I frequented yahoo sports since 2006. It wasnt until I noticed my friend on the Flyers blog that my interest became enticed.

so during a game recap on yahoo sports i strolled to the right side of the page and clicked one of those SBnation links. Found the nets blog and put me in a tranquil yet elated state of being. Then after 2-3 weeks i was like “Hey there are other sports blogs i can join” and I quickly hopped on BTB.

For me, its being able to share inside jokes like having 14-13 flashbacks during the final minutes of the first NYG/Dallas game. Or being able to vent when you cant get out the house to chat up with your buddies at the bar or pool hall. I mainly enjoy the extended and extensive news coverage. I have never read so much in my life aside for burying my face in my Diff EQ and Thermo textbooks and notes. I enjoy just reading and reading the news and not necessarily commenting.

It was easy for me with football and basketball because i understand most advanced stats. But baseball and hockey I’m still working on understanding advanced stats that go beyond fantasy sports so i’m not making arguments and claims off of pure raw stats

Romo for his shortcomings early in the season was far from the problem of the cowboys undoing this year

but being in Jersey growing up was rough, Giants, Skins, and Eagles all right there. Even when I lived in Baltimore there were Dallas fans abound.

I just find it hilarious but am still proud of them because these are the people that fuel Jerry’s ambition to think what he has done the last 17 years has been right

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell says he is disappointed in the quality of last week’s Pro Bowl and changes must be considered, perhaps even dropping the game altogether.

Speaking on ESPN Radio, Goodell says this year’s Pro Bowl wasn’t "the kind of football we want to be demonstrating to our fans, and you heard it from the fans, the fans were actively booing in the stands."

Welcome to BTB new posters!

Wow, saying that makes me feel like I am an ole veteran at this bloggin stuff. I too lurked for quite awhile before making my first post. The thing I noticed right off was how intelligent the staff and regulars were. I’m thinking, geez these guys really know their stuff and truly have a love for the team. The comraderie is evident and not just a place to vent or try to take frustrations out on each other. Trolls are identified and tactfully handled but its still a home for the casual fan that just wants to be one of the guys. The staff are very in tune with whats being said here and come up with stories that keep the flow going. I’m hooked now and am definately thankful to be a part. Thanks guys! and go Boys!

Hmmm, why did I join BTB?

I live in maybe one of the loneliest places for a Cowboy’s fan, Wisconsin. 20 minutes south of Green Bay to be exact. I grew up here in the 90’s haydays and revelled in the glory of winning 3 superbowls and rubbing it in my friend’s stupid faces. Now lately, it seems I’ve been returned the favor for about 15 years or so. Last year I stumbled upon this community and fell in love because its full of real discussions and fans that are about the only team that truly matters to me. I’m not a big contributor, but I am on almost everyday to read honest news, opinions, and insight about America’s team. And by the way, I have found that there are truly more Cowboy fans around this country than anyone else. Just go to a Packer game vs the boys and see for yourself.

PS, if any of you guys are up here or plan on coming up for a Packer v Boys game let me know and we’ll get a sweet pregame bash set up and represent Dallas in the parking lot of the Green Bay Curling Club.

From the front page writers, to the posters and commentors, fans will learn about everything Cowboys related. From statistical analysis by O.C.C, football theory by CoachGary to draft and scouting postings by Birddog and Chia, among many others you can’t ask for anything more than that.
Now if Stephen, JJ, JG and the players show the intensity and passion the people on this website show, we may be watching our team in the SB next year.

Here’s a theoretical play from 2010: Snap. Tony takes 7 step drop. Tony looks left at Miles, who is doubled, and looks right to where Roy Williams should be…but instead sees Colombo on his back and a Defensive End foaming at the mouth jumping over Marc’s carcass. Tony proceeds to run like hell and look for Witten

This man is a shining example of what writing a crap-ton of quality Cowboys articles can get you!

Do not be afraid, newbies!!!

What is the star now? A fallen piece of hardened plastic? The heaviest franchise in American sport? A false idol adored by many millions? The epitome of all that can be achieved with hard work? All that can be lost with too strong a sense of entitlement? A welcome coping mechanism, distracting from the real negativity on Earth? A bonding and separating agent?

Just wanna say

Its nice to have a forum where most of the posts are intellegent and well thought out. Of course I do not agree with everything that is said but I can understand the reasoning behind most opinions unlike opinions expressed on some other sites I have looked at.

Newbie Rec's For Everyone!

Now, if somebody doesn’t agree with that, that’s cool. I also don’t agree with the fact that I don’t have $10 million in my bank account. But the fact that I don’t agree with it doesn’t make it any less true.

Looking forward to your Fanposts.

In the 17 seasons from 1966-1982, the Cowboys went at least to the conference championship game 14 times. In the 16 seasons from 1996-2011, the Cowboys have won 2 wild card games.

First Post

I found this site during the 2011 season and found it to be a great source for Cowboys info, not too mention the wide variety of informed(mostly) opinions! During the season I found myself coming back to BTB more frequently and for longer stretches of time. Thus, I finally created an account last week, but had not made a post yet.

I am a life-long Cowboys fan, first game I ever attend was in 1987 againt the St.Louis Cardinals…yes, St. Louis, which Dallas won to finish 7-8 and I still have the program from, though I mostly had a rough go of it early in life living about 40 minutes from Philadelphia. Man, those late 80’s/early 90’s Eagles teams just put a hurting on Dallas and the Philly fans, verbally, on me! It would get so rough that our football games with family (half from Texas half from Pennsylvania) would almost deginerate into fights! The absolute low-point was that 24-0 drubbing back in ’91, but beating the Eagles in the playoffs to start the streak of winning 3 out of 4 superbowls. Nothing beats being a young-teen and having your team win multiple superbowls!

Sadly, that glorious early/mid 90s period as made the past 17 years of mediocrity feel even worse. However as we all saw lastnight, luck plays a huge part in how the ball bounces and it seems Dallas used up 20 years of luck/karma in a five-year period. Hopefully we can start to get the ball bouncing our way again…..not the giants way!

Anyway, on to the team we all love, which some of us seem to love to hate! I will now be joining the commetnting fray with my eyeball assessment of Dallas (note: I do love all the new fangled advanced stats being introduced to football) and looking forward to some good subjective and objective debates with all of you!

Good morning

I first saw BTB sometime around 2008-9 looking for different sites to get my boys “fix”…I found very quickly that the topics here were different than others..Here i found many links to information that i never found on others. It was a different class of people commenting too. Everywhere else i’d see Romo bashing JJ bashing Garrett bashing and most of it was in a vile format..I hate it when all you see is a bunch of ugly comments from uninformed people but here on BTB everyone seems to be informed before they post. BTB also has the best stories and most are written in a way where the reader can can check where all the info was gathered. Nobody here seems to have a fat head..BTB is now the only site i need to log on to get the full cowboy experience..Thank you Dave and all the writers
