Bruce Carter
I don't know why we keep seeing posts about Dallas needing to take a ILB in this year's draft. While there are some interesting prospects in this draft (Kuechly/Burfict), I don't don't understand why people are so quick to discount Carter's ability to not only man the position next year, but actually excel at it. No we really have no way to predict his effectiveness, but the limited snaps he got this previous season should be no indicator of how good he will be.

I Think the thought process is ( and not that i agree)
Is that unlike sean lee last year carter didnt earn his way onto the field, abd didnt have his preview game against the colts.
I think Carter did exactly what the ftont office expected. He played on special teams where he flashed. He almost picked of a pass or two (in only 40 snaps) and showed the athletic ability to man the spot next to Lee.
Time will tell, but at worst i think Carter will man the nickle, and be a quality set piece to this defense.
We shall see. Either way i expect a mid round lb and or a low cost free agent.

its not Bruce Carter
its the depth behind him, there is none
you have to have depth and have someone who can step in IF Carter or Lee get hurt or if Carter doesn’t grasp the starting role

Chia is absolutely right
And if a top prospect falls to us, especially if he adds the demension of a pass rush ability, why not snap him up. In a 3-4 defense the OLB and ILB are where the bread and butter is. In a good rotation a top draft pick can see just as many snaps as Lee and Carter.

Birddog
any ideas?
I was thinking more along the lines of a mid round prospect, say a Emmanuel Acho/Keenan Robinson or Jerry Franklin type
I really like James Michael Johnson from Nevada, that kid might be one of the best ILB in the class

Johnson could rise after the combine
He has been going full tilt working out at Atletes Performance in Los Angelas. Right now he could be a target in 3rd round IMO but a strong combine and he could move into the second. I like him. He has great instincts and good vision to see the play and get through traffic. Solid in coverage. Not a thumper but with a little more wieght and some work on tackling he could be another terror in the middle.
Andy Buh his position coach at Nevada loves the kid. Andy is out of the Harbaugh school of coaching from Stanford and is demanding like Harbuagh.

I really really like that kid man
first time I saw him i was like wow, he is going to be a NFL player
what a ILB, dude is all over the place
he really stood out whenever I watched him and I became an instant fan of his

We need more than two quality ILB.
hopefully we draft one or two but not too early. plz not the second round again! lol
D-Ware= sack master ALL PRO OLB
#1 pass rusher in the NFL
0.5 away from two 20 sack seasons.

What type of prospect does Orie Lemon provide us at ILB? Do you think he may of help? Showed some promise in training camp, but we do need more depth at this position with the probable loss of Brookings and James.
Orie looked good last training camp
And he has had a year to develop on the practice squad which I think will only make him better this coming season. I feel with Lee, Carter, Lemon and a top prospect we could see not only a very good rotation at ILB, but a very young group of a players who could keep it as strength for many years to come.
Cowboys also picked up Brashton Satele. He comes from a big football family with his father playing in the NFL along with 3 cousins. Maybe a longshot to make the roster but can make the practice squad next year.

Wasn't Satele a NY Jet?
I remember him from their Hard Knocks season as he was one of the last guys to get cut in training camp. I think they PS’d him later on.

I like Donte Hightower
but only if he could play both ILB and OLB in a 3-4 defense. Does he have any outside LB ability or is he strictly ILB?
if he was there in the 2nd
I would actually really like picking him up

Hightower isn't athletic enough to play outside.
He’s a perfect fit for ILB in a 3-4
Favorite Prospects: Martin, Burfict, Rainey, Curry

I've kinda wondered the same thing
and worried that the Cowboys gave up on Carter, but he was injured and that’s why he couldn’t find the field. Maybe he didn’t learn the system. I find it hard to believe he can be worse than old man Brooking or James, but I’m not the DC. LIke someone said, we can always use another LB, esp in the 3-4. If he’s the clear BPA, take the LB.

"...and the Cowboys...STUN the Bills!"--ESPN MNF
Carter was on IR so was not able to workout with the team until after the 8 th game of the season.
He was able to then put on the pads and was able to get into the defensive and ST plays for the last 3 games. I do not think anyone is saying he cannot or will not be a starter, but we do need the depth and if we can do it through the draft and build a strong rotation at ILB then it only makes the team stronger.

Ok, thank you everyone, I can understand the interest there a little better now. Maybe I am just too eager to actually see how well Carter’s speed and football IQ equates to the field. If my memory serves me right, Chia was high on him and wrote a piece about him.

Carter
Yep, I really do believe that Carter will the missing piece to our defense in addition to some additions we hopefully make this off-season. :) I see him being a playmaker for years to come.
well there are plenty of guys that will do
late in the draft
or sign D’Qwell Jackson
David Hawthorne (SEA)
Chase Blackburn (NYG)

Blackburn isn't going anywhere now
