One more free agency corner on the market.
Probably not a starter, but since the Cowboys need at least 2 corners he could be of interest.

Gosh

PFF are taking him apart on Twitter:

Routt also allowed 9 TDs last season, which is more than any other CB surrendered

Routt graded reasonably well in coverage, and numbers are OK, but offset a LOT of receiving yardage with penalty yardage. Skews data

Stanford Routt was being paid like an elite corner, but he was far from that, hence the cutting. 17 penalties led the league for CBs

Yeah

He’s rated poorly on PFF for 4 straight years.

by Luke. on Feb 9, 2012 5:18 PM CST up reply actions

Indeed, his best rating was 0.1

In 2008

Ever since he has been in the negative

And to think they Let Nnamdi Walk because of this guy

I sense a lot of regret in the 2011 season for the Raiders (add Carson Palmer trade in there too)

"I firmly believe that any man's finest hour, the greatest fulfillment of all that he holds dear, is that moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle, victorious." –Vince Lombardi

not true

Nnamdi had an out in his contract that if he failed to achieve certain stats in any season he became an unrestricted free agent. As it turned out he got injured during the 2010 season, and didn’t reach those stats.

"The tone is business," Garrett said. "Let's get to work. The Giants are going to be at the Meadowlands on Sunday at 4:15. They're an awfully good football team. We have to get ready for them."

If we do sign him. Let it be for depth only..

I would probably take him over Ball as the 3rd or 4th corner

Wait this can't be right

There was a CB worse than Terence Newman in 2011?

interesting article here from PFF

http://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2011/06/14/interview-with-stanford-routt-cb-oakland-raiders/

I wouldnt mind signing him if it was a good contract, a bargain

the problem is, press corners with speed and size (6’1) will be gobbled up in free agency
he already has a flight to Buffalo for a meeting and one in Tennessee

Rob Ryan history here, interesting to see what happens

"With the 14th pick in the 2012 NFL Draft.........The Dallas Cowboys select..............Melvin Ingram DE South Carolina"

My card has been sent in

Huff was one of the others released.

Would not surprise me if they turned over almost the whole secondary. Davis made almost all of the choices on the secondary in Oakland and the team wants to cut ties with the Davis way and take the team in a new direction. Since Gruden they have only had 1 coach make it over 2 seasons coaching.

You have to play this game like somebody just hit your mother with a two-by-four. Dan Birdwell. Oakland Raiders

How do you want to be rememberd. Go out there and play every play like it is your last play. Be remembered as the person you want to be for the rest of your life. Spike Dykes, Midland Lee and Texas Tech Coach.

Birddog

What are your opinions of Huff and Routt?

I think he can be a very good player

The whole situation in Oakland has been a revolving door at all of the coach’s positions and it is hard to judge just how much of this effected the play on the field for all team members.

Based off ScarletO's post regarding just needing league average CBs to replace Newman

1) I think a guy who can play press-man like Routt, would be a good fit. He won’t have the pressure of being the number 1 guy. He can just play his game.

2) I can definitely see us taking Chase Minnifield in the 2nd round. Similar measurables to Dre Kirkpatrick. If he runs a similar 40s, 20s, and 10s as Dre, he could definitely be the pick. No baggage to deal with, and is really good in press-man, & zone. Also a play maker as well.

If he runs really well...

I’m thinking Minnifield might run himself off the board before our 2nd pick.

by Luke. on Feb 9, 2012 11:51 PM CST up reply actions

If he runs well and has similar measurables to Kirk and Jenkins

I can see a scenario were Jerry trades back into the late first round, like he did for Mike Jenkins, and snatch up Minnifield.

well he's taller than Jenkins

Certainly possible.

It’s so hard to predict the Draft when Free Agency and the Combine hasn’t even happened yet.

All the good theories that have been thrown around the last few weeks will probably be completely laid to waste soon and we’ll have to start all over again.

by Luke. on Feb 10, 2012 1:26 AM CST up reply actions

too true

I saw mocks where Dallas was taking Mike Adams in the 5th round when he was like the 150th ranked prospect; post-Senior Bowl he’s now ranked as a 2nd or 3d rounder by NFP and CBS!

Football Outsiders

had Routt graded very strongly in success rate both this year and last year. They think he’s a top 20 caliber guy.

The penalties are worrisome, but it might be just the culture(and coaching) in Oakland, who annually rank among the most penalized teams in the league, and challenge records even in that regard.

by Alan Smithee on Feb 10, 2012 11:49 AM CST reply actions

Depends on the contract he wants

Not going to get in a bidding war, but for 3 years and reasonable money …

The Raiders scheme (and culture) lends itself to penalties—the CBs almost never get any help from sound of thing. I’d think being in Dallas would moderate that.

Ideally you’d like a FA to start opposite Jenkins, with Scandrick in the slot and your day 1/2 draft pick as the dime guy (for starters—let him fight his way up).

by DB23 on Feb 10, 2012 12:00 PM CST reply actions

Much about the MONEY

How much do the Raiders still owe Routt? And, (bottom line), how much would the Cowboys have to pay to add him?
If the price is right…he looks to be a really nice addition to the defense. imo.
Research first…then form your own opinion.

Good job on a very interesting fanshot to PKD.
