Cowboys 2012 Draft: Not Interested In David DeCastro? Looking At Defense?

Jerry Jones sat for an interview with Clarence Hill, Jr. of the Star-Telegram (among others) and had some very interesting comments regarding the upcoming Cowboys 2012 draft. You can view part of the video here. Now, we all know the smokescreens and subterfuge that go on this time of year, so you can't take anything totally at face value. But, Jerry often speaks his mind, so it's impossible to ignore what he says.

This information is taken from Clarence Hill's Twitter page, so make a pit stop over there, since he's provided us with some nice information.

For those of you, and that includes me, who are very intrigued with the idea of David DeCastro wearing the star in 2012, you might want to re-think it. Jerry likes the job the Cowboys did in free agency along the interior of the line, and is not inclined to draft a guard at pick #14.

Furthermore, Jerry lists defensive positions as the ones he's thinking about, as pointed out in Hill's tweet above. He specifically mentioned Memphis player Dontari Poe as someone they've done their homework on and really like. Poe's versatility along the line, along with the Cowboys playing both 3-4 and 4-3 fronts, goes into that thinking.

He also brought up the possibility that Dallas could trade out of the 14th pick, but if they stayed they would probably target a defensive player. And lastly, just because the Cowboys signed Brandon Carr doesn't preclude them from drafting another corner in the first round because corner is a "premium position" according to Jones.
