BTB's 2012 Community Mock And Prospect Profile: Buffalo And Kansas City Want A Return To Glory

2012 Community Mock Draft

We're finally out of the single digits as we inch closer to Dallas getting on the clock in our community draft. Carolina snatched up a defensive line prospect that has been rumored to Dallas in Fletcher Cox; so a little pause has to go across Cowboys nation to see their first true target snatched with several picks to go. In the meantime, with four picks to go, other franchises are focused on improving their teams; not necessarily sticking it to Dallas.

Buffalo hasn't finished more than two games above .500 since 1999. Remember early last season when the talk was of them overthrowing New England for the AFC East title? They ended up 6-10. Kansas City has had a handful of positive seasons, however they are sprinkled in between years of putrid play as they haven't been able to establish any kind of consistency. KC is trotting out a new head coach after removing the interim tag from Romeo Crennel. Buffalo is fully re-committing to the 4-3 defense.

Let's head to the podium to see who the assigned GM's are picking for their franchises.

Draft Pick # 10

Team Name: Buffalo Bills

GM: LeedsCowboy

Selection: (DT) Michael Brockers

With the 10th overall pick, the Buffalo Bills select DT Michael Brockers Louisiana State, a reach maybe but my reasoning is this, lets go back in time to Sunday 5th February 2012. Ralph Wilson and Chan Gailey have watched with a vested interest, in the way the Giants on their way to another Superbowl win against AFC East rivals the Patriots, and the way the Giants Defensive line dominated.

Football is a game that is won and lost in the trenches, any team that has a line that can dominate the opposition is on it's way to winning. Fast Forward 6 weeks or so and F.A opens and the Bills are out of the blocks like an Olympic sprinter in the 100 final, their target Mario Williams the premier pass rusher available in F.A within 48 hours they have their man with a huge $96 million dollar contract giving the Bills a presence on their defensive line that has not been since Bruce Smith was in his pomp. Williams joins up with 2010 All Pro DT Kyle Williams and last years 3rd overall pick Marcel Dareus.

A bold move, reaching for a kid with not much experience on playing on the D line, but he will learn a lot from playing with the Williams and Dareus. The Bills D-Line it is sure to cause sleepless nights in the AFC East, especially in New York, with Rex Ryan recently announcing Wayne Hunter will continue at RT for the Jets, and with the recent acquisition of Tim Tebow he will be hoping that when Sanchez goes down, then Tebow will be able to run away from the Bills Defensive Lineman.

Draft Pick # 11

Team Name: Kansas City Chiefs

GM: TK19

Selection: (NT) Dontari Poe

If I am Scott Pioli, GM for the Chiefs, I am fairly happy with how this draft has gone so far. I look at my big board and see David DeCastro, Luke Kuechly, Nick Perry, Dontari Poe and Melvin Ingram still available. I also am slightly surprised to see an intriguing prospect in QB Ryan Tannehill. I briefly flirt with the idea of drafting him but decide I am going to roll with Matt Cassell as my starter and hope either Brady Quinn or Ricky Stanzi can develop enough to replace him if he falters.

Poe has the size and athleticism to be an imposing NT. My coach assures me he was misused at Memphis and with proper coaching could be dominant.

Since 2000 I have made 11 first round selections and four of those times I selected a defensive lineman with some success (Tyson Jackson, Vince Wilfork, Ty Warren and Richard Seymour). In 2012 I will listen to Crennel and take the big NT from Memphis, Dontari Poe.
