With the draft a little over a week away, most Boards are set, so now it is time for my Final Mock up for Dallas. If this is your first time seeing this I invite you to Look over my Previous Mocks, Here, and Here. This is now the time to show how we got here. So here is the background for this:
For this Series of posts I will be using the Draftek Online Draft Simulator as my method of mocking. Bear in mind that this is based on Drafttek's Big Board and may not be how you rank the prospects. I will of course offer up to three different Mocks in each posts, one standard mock, which will be the Drafttek settings, the outlook mock, which wil be using Draftteks big board + my position outlook setting, and finally My BPA mock, in which I will possibly grab a player that I think would be a better pick.
As for the position outlook portion here are my rankings:
QB-5 Stars
Tackle- 4 Stars
Guard- 3 Stars
Center- 2 Stars
Corner Back- 4 Stars
Safety- 2 Stars
DL- 3 Stars
ILB- 5 Stars
OLB- 4 Stars
RB-5 Stars
WR- 4 Stars
TE- 4 Stars
So to under stand how the Drafttek priority codes work and how they align with my rankings, Click here for an explanation of the Codes.
I would suggest you read them because here is how I work the Codes with my rankings:
1-2-3 stars- priority codes 1-2-3 respectfully
4- stars- codes 4-6: this depends on how I feel about the depth players for instance, OT and CB =code 4; WR= code 6; TE position= code 5
5 stars- code 9(pure BPA)
This should help you understand why the mocks fall like they do. Past the Jump you will find the mocks.
First Off the "baseline Mock" using the ODS:
14 Dallas Melvin Ingram OLB34
45 Dallas Kevin Zeitler OG
81 Dallas Casey Hayward CB
113 Dallas Jamell Fleming CB
135 Dallas Tank Carder ILB
152 Dallas Markus Zucevics OT
186 Dallas Patrick Witt QB
222 Dallas Josh Chichester TE
So with this mock there are many nice picks. I can't think of too many people that would be displeased if the draft fell this way. Dallas gets a replacement for Anthony Spencer in Melvin Ingram, a nice O-line addition in Zeitler, plus two decent CB's in Hayward and Fleming. not to mention some competition @ ILB(Carder), OT(Zucevics), QB(Witt) and a third TE(Chichster)
So lets see how the My positional analysis compares to Draftteks:
14 Dallas Melvin Ingram OLB34
45 Dallas Kevin Zeitler OG
81 Dallas Brandon Thompson DT43
113 Dallas Jamell Fleming CB
135 Dallas Phillip Thomas FS
152 Dallas Markus Zucevics OT
186 Dallas Patrick Witt QB
222 Dallas Josh Chichester TE
As you can see the different Analysis produces only a slightly different mock, the biggest changes coming in the third round(Thompson vs Hayward) and with the "comp pick"(Thomas vs Carder) SO rather than get 2 CB's and an extra ILB, Dallas gets an extra DE and a late round FS....However there is one last mock to do....
My personal mock...
14 Dallas Luke Kuechly ILB
45 Dallas Josh Robinson CB
81 Dallas Brandon Brooks OG
113 Dallas Malik Jackson DE34
135 Dallas Jamell Fleming CB
152 Dallas Markus Zucevics OT
186 Dallas Patrick Witt QB Yale
222 Dallas Josh Chichester TE
As you may have noted I took Kuechly in my pre free agency mock. And with the signing of Dan Connor, the ILB position would seem to be set. Well IMO Kuechly is the definition of "blue Chip". Outrageous college production + outstanding athleticism as showcased at the Combine, was considered one of the leaders on the BC team, and won almost every major College Award as a true junior....this kid has everything you could ask for in a first round pick. high floor, All-pro potential....at 14 with Decastro off the board, I have to take Kuechly...
For those that don't know here is Kuechly's workout at the Combine:
Height: 6-2
Weight: 242
40 Yrd Dash: 4.58
225 Lb. Bench Reps: 27
Vertical Jump: 38
Broad Jump: 10'03"
20 Yrd Shuttle: 4.12
3-Cone Drill: 6.92
Just to show you here why that is important here is Sean Lee's Combine Workout:
Height: 6-2
Weight: 236
40 Yrd Dash: 4.71
20 Yrd Dash: 2.63
10 Yrd Dash: 1.61
225 Lb. Bench Reps: 24
Vertical Jump: 37 1/2
Broad Jump: 10'00"
20 Yrd Shuttle: 4.16
3-Cone Drill: 6.89
Sean Lee athleticism+instincts in an injury free package?....yeah I'll take that please.
Now in the Drafttek, model it shows us taking Kevin Zeitler at 45, and while I wouldn't argue the pick, I had hoped that Gillmore, Dre or Barron would have fallen to 45, but with him off the board, I have to take Josh Robinson here. While he lacks the "elite size"(at only 5-9) that Dallas may be looking for, his athleticism can't be questioned:
Height: 5-9
Weight: 199
40 Yrd Dash: 4.33
225 Lb. Bench Reps: 17
Vertical Jump: 38 1/2
Broad Jump: 11'01"
20 Yrd Shuttle: 3.97
3-Cone Drill: 6.55
A second round pick that can run with any WR in the league, he would certainly enhance Dallas' Secondary. Plus at 200 lbs is still big enough to play press. He Will not fall past the second round, so while taking him at 45 is a slight reach, it is one that I can live with.
The reason I can live with taking Robinson at 45 is because at 81, I got Brandon Brooks. How this kid would fall to 81 is beyond me, but a kid with his size and athleticism is a scary combination...Imagine Doug Free, but without the early strength issues....If he makes it here Dallas would have to take him....here is his pro day workout:
Height: 6-5
Weight: 346
40 Yrd Dash: 4.99
20 Yrd Dash: 2.79
10 Yrd Dash: 1.71
225 Lb. Bench Reps: 36
Vertical Jump: 32
Broad Jump: 08'09"
20 Yrd Shuttle: 4.53
3-Cone Drill: 7.37
if you wan to see why I compare him to Doug Free, here is Free's Workout:
Height: 6-6
Weight: 324
40 Yrd Dash: 5.19
20 Yrd Dash: 2.96
10 Yrd Dash: 1.78
225 Lb. Bench Reps: 22
Vertical Jump: 30
Broad Jump: 09'03"
20 Yrd Shuttle: 4.53
3-Cone Drill: 7.38
As you can see Brooks, at almost 20lbs heavier, matched or bettered Free in almost every drill other than broad jump....put these two side by side and OMG.....660+lbs of Beef that can run a 5 sec 40, leading Murray and Felix? yeah good luck defenses.....
the rest of the draft falls similar to my position outlook one, so I won't go into detail about it.....I know that there is alot of folks that won't like the Kuechly pick, but like I said I couldn't pass him up.
let me know in the poll how you feel.
