This is more of a conversation-starter, and just an example to get a sampling of opinion from the quality commenters on these boards. So, here goes.
Can anyone envision a scenario where we wouldn't be sacrificing too much to get BOTH David DeCastro and
another First Round talent that we have been commonly discussing with our 14th pick?
For my thoughts as to one scenario as to how it might work, please continue after the...
At Pick 14, Fletcher Cox and David DeCastro are still on the board.
Dallas selects Fletcher Cox with Pick 14, because they feel he is the best 5-Tech available, and will strongly assist in getting some much needed pressure on defense up front. They love David DeCastro, but feel that Cox is the better pick here.
Then... David DeCastro continues to slide because other teams have determined they have greater needs elsewhere and is miraculously available at Pick 20, with Tennessee on the clock and Cincinatti expecting to draft DDC at 21.
Would a package deal of a 2nd round pick, an additional pick in 2013, and possibly a player like F. Jones or M. Jenkins be enough to entice Tennessee to deal with us? Would that type of deal be appealing in the Dallas Cowboys War Room? Would that be something my fellow readers on the board could get behind?
Obviously this is just a hypothetical, especially given the myriad permutations the draft can take once it's underway. But I think it's pretty cool to daydream about.
I'll leave it to the rest of you to ponder any viable scenarios where two first round picks in 2012 might be in the cards for the Dallas Cowboys. I would appreciate any and all insights here, as this post is specifically designed to get some interesting opinions about one potential scenario that could play out in the draft that hasn't been really explored much. (And likely with good reason!)
