My first FanPost on BTB. I've been a member for about a month or so and have been reading/trolling BTB for a couple years. Best blog in the world, hands down.
Back to the topic... The schedule release had me full of emotions a couple days ago. I'm sure most of you were in that same boat. Along with a ton of other thoughts that have been running through my head, I'm extremely intrigued with how this schedule is going to affect our draft day plans.
We all know that were in a pretty good spot to take BPA. And I love that we've been able to put ourselves in this position. But with the brunt of our first part of the schedule being on the road, and that old saying a good defense travels well. I think it solidifies the priority of shoring up our defense in this draft more than offense. If you break it down, not only does our team travel a lot the first half of the year, only 1 out of our 8 away games are played indoors. That means our defense had better show up knowing that our offense could struggle in the elements(if any).
The case can be made that this argument could be used for taking DeCastro to beef up our run game. But lets be honest, he most likely will not fall to us, and if he does JJ isn't going to take him with the recent additions he has made to our O-Line. And to be honest, I'm much more confident in our current run game than our defense.
I think this schedule has to hold some weight in the war room on draft day. We all know the struggles the boys have down the stretch, and whether the team admits it or not, they know it was well. They know that it will be very important to get off to a good start with this schedule. Taking a solid defense on the road and having success is a lot easier than taking a potent offense to an opposing team's croud noise and stadium elements. WE HAVE TO HAVE A GOOD DEFENSIVE DRAFT!
So all in all.. Still BPA**
** On Defense
So what do ya'll think? Does the schedule affect draft day plans?
