The first round of the NFL Draft is perhaps the most exciting non football action event in the NFL. I've become a draft junky since joining SBNation and specifically the BTB community. As a team, the Cowboys drafts have been getting better. It helps when you're not trading your picks for overrated bust wide receivers. *Cough* Roy Williams *Cough*
We have our favorite prospects. We love the DeCastro's, the Ingram's, the Barron's, etc. But there are plenty of other talented players in this draft. It's a very deep draft, and if we scouted correctly, and get a little luck we can make out pretty well this year.
Don't be surprised if we trade our pick today to gain more. Don't be surprised if we trade up to gain a top prospect. In our history we show that we manipulate other teams in order to move our position in the draft. I wouldn't be mad at either option, but I much rather stay put and keep our eight total picks.
Now here's the advice part. Don't declare anyone a bust just because you wanted someone different. The NFL Draft isn't the end. It's the beginning. It's the start of a career. If we select Poe or Brockers tonight don't hate. Look at their strengths and do some more research. These guys maybe the next dominant defensive linemen in the NFL.
Look how the Giants selected Jason Pierre-Paul. The fans in New York booed. Are they booing now? Certainly not. He's going to be a force to be reckoned with for years to come.
You just don't know who's going to pan out. It's fun to speculate now, but lets do the real judging in 3-5 years. Happy Draft day BTB. Follow the jump for my pick for us. I've seen the Bills and Chiefs eyeing him so here it goes.
Cowboys trade up for the Dolphins 8th pick and select...
