Day 3 trend that needs to stop!

I want to first start by saying I love what the boys did last night even though it did cost us a 2nd round pick (although I have my fingers crossed that Jenkins and a trade could change that). However as of now we dont have one so I want to look ahead to day 3 and specifically rounds 3 and 4. Since 2007 the boys have a trend that needs to stop for two reasons. The first is that it isn't working and the second reason is we don't have a 2nd rounder and we need the 3rd and 4th rounders to hit this year. The trend im talking about is taking players that have "upside" from a small school and/or taking athletic players and changing the position they play.

In 2007 in round 4 Dallas took I Stanback QB from washington and tried to make him a WR and as we all know it didnt work out and all the work the boys put into making a injury prone great athlete into something he wasnt cost us Danny Amendola.

In 2009 in round 3 the boys take Jason Williams and Robert Brewster in round 3 both small school guys with upside and both out of the NFL now,and in round 4 a QB who has potential because he didnt play in a pro style offense except for one year. Why that makes a QB have potential I do not know.

In 2010 dallas takes a CB from a small school in Indiana named AOA (I'm not going to try and spell it) because he is fast and then try to make him a safety, a kick returner, a CB again, and then a WR before eventually cutting him.

Then last year they take Arkin a OT from a small school and try to make him a guard. I know the jury is still out on him but lets face it if the 1st round pick was an interior lineman and not a CB his chances of making the roster this year were slim.

I admire the boys coaches and ownnership optimistic approach in saying they can "coach up" these guys but it isnt working in rounds 3 and 4. It is working in rds 6 and 7 as UDFA such as Lissemore, Ratliff, Romo, Austin, Church, McCray, Phillips, and Parnell (I'm assuming its working for Parnell they just gave him money) are proving. So I make a personal plea to Garrett and Jones to take guys who are ready to contribute in some way right now in rounds 3 and 4 be that in ST's or somebody that can step in and play 2 or 3 games if an injury occurs and leave the guys who just need "coaching up" and guys who have huge "upside" to somebody else. I think it was Einstein who said the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. So please leave the potential and upside guys to round 6 and later and get a football players in rds 3 and 4.
