Anthony Spencer nut busting has got to stop. (This one is for you BlueDeath)

Not to call anyone out. But, in OCC's latest post "Cowboys' Most Productive Defenders: Sean Lissemore, Sean Lee and Barry Church" there were a ton of people bagging on Spencer in the comments section. After the jump, I'd like to embellish a little bit on a particular exchange between myself and BtB member, BlueDeath.

Spencer is solid but

we have seen where solid gets us, as fans we want a compliment to Ware.We all know if he gets hurt we are screwed, so being solid doesnt cut it. In this lg you need pressures and sacks to be good on defense, stopping the run means nothing if you can’t get off the field on fourth down.

ME

Isn't SOLB just that? STRONG Outside Linebacker?

I’m sorry, but the griping about Spencer is getting really played out. He is a damn good player, asked to play a completely different position that DWare, has an impossible expectation to live up to when compared to Ware, and (though he doesn’t play against the left tackle) he typically does have to play against the numbers. Give the guy a damn break.
You people are ridiculous sometimes.

Who would you rather have BTW?

That I’d like to hear

Excuse me for having an opinion.lol I didn’t knock Spencer I understand he’s great vs the run. My only issue is on 3rd down our defense has struggled for years and if anything ever happens to Ware we’d be doomed. I’ve always rooted for spencer and thought he could be a 9-12 sack guy ,but he’s never been that type of guy.
Who would I rather have?Hmm

Ryan Kerrigan

Lamar Woodley

Lance Briggs

Kamerion Wimbley

Brian Orakpo

Aldon Smith

Cameron Wake

Von Miller

I have a few more I could name but Im sure you get the point.

So, I guess all that really needs to be done is break down these guys and prove that knee jerking and dreaming of all the "better" players we could have is not only disrespectful to Spence but also not plausible outside the realm of unchecking the Madden salary cap button.

Rosenhaus guy. Making 6 million a year and demanded trade last year because he was satisfied with the amount of money he was making.

ILB. Probably wouldn't hold up well @ SOLB in a 3-4.

NOW

After breaking all of these guys down. I'll show a little deserved humility. For the most part, most of these guys could potentially be upgrades to Spencer. The problem I have, and had before this research for that matter. Is the fact that none of these names are available, none of these names are less expensive (after rookie contracts are wiped out), and a lot of them are more "elephant" types and even an ILB(Briggs).

I do like to look at Von Miller as a potential long term replacement for Ware, after his rookie contract is up. I would absolutely love to replace Spencer with Kerrigan because he is the only player I see here who seems to have the durability and measurables that Spencer has.

Orakpo would be nice to have. But, he seems to be hurt all the time.

Aldon Smith will have a "Ware price tag" on him before you know it.

The rest would require a trade to acquire any time before the tread wore off.

I admit, I get a little defensive when it comes to my 'Boys. But, I still firmly believe Spencer is the best thing out there for us right now. What say you BtB?!
