(I promise this is relevant to the Cowboys, so don't give up on reading it).
My youngest son has plagiochephaly, which is basically just a flat spot on the back of his head, so he has one of these:
His helmet is painted silver with a Cowboys star on the front, a Mavericks logo on the back, and a Rangers logo on the side.
We have to drive from Tyler to Dallas once a week for the next few months for weekly adjustments. We decided this time to make the appointment on Monday morning, and stay Sunday night to make a mini-vacation out of it.
A few years ago, Texas Monthly named the 50 best burgers in Texas, and #1 was in Dallas at The Grape, on Greenville near Mockingbird. They only serve the burger for Sunday brunch, so we made reservations.
At the restaurant I noticed there were two guys and two girls sitting at the table behind us, and one of the guys looked really familiar. Who was this guy, with the face of a 13 year old and the body of a linebacker? Was it someone I went to college with? Hmmmm...........wait a minute, that's Sean Lee!!! I didn't want to bother him but I couldn't resist, so I went over to say hello. I took my 5 month old with me, since my 3 year old was playing angry birds at the table and couldn't have been pulled away by a bomb blowing up in the kitchen.
"I'm sorry to bother you, but you're one of my favorite players and I just wanted to meet you and introduce you to a little Cowboys fan".
Sean said "Thank you. It's nice to meet you. I like the little guy's helmet." His girlfriend (or at least the girl he was with, I don't know their relationship status) said, "I saw his helmet a minute ago when you guys came in, he's really cute."
Suddenly I realized who he was sitting with.........Dan Connor.
I shook Dan's hand and told them both how excited I was to see them play together again. I asked Sean if he'd had the burger. He said "I didn't have it today, but I've had it before. It's great."
I said "well I'll stop bothering you guys, I just wanted to meet you." Sean said "no worries man, not bothering us at all. Have a good one".
I went back to my table, giddy, just in time for my burger to arrive. Best burger I've ever eaten in my life. It wasn't until a few hours later that my wife and I realized we should have asked Sean and Dan to sign my son's helmet. They were so nice, they would have definitely done it. I'm sick over not thinking to ask, it would have given my son a unique keepsake for the rest of his life. Anyway, I now know who I'm rooting for in the Connor/Bruce Carter competition. And Sean Lee has gone from being one of my 2 or 3 favorite Cowboys players to the definite #1 spot. Such a nice guy.
