Carter vs. Conner no more folks!
Seems a couple of things have become absolutely transparent during the first couple weeks of this preseason. One, Victor butler is going to be a big part of our pass rush this year. Two? Conner, though he may be a great option for goal line and base 3-4 situations, chances don't seem very likely he'll see the field much in those 4-3 sets Rob has been putting on display.
IMO, the new battle for snaps is between Conner and Butler. Reasoning? Spencer is on his way back. When he does return, he'll surely man the strong side 4-3 end. This was his natural position in college. The position that warranted him being drafted in the first round. More reasoning? Conner does not seem to have the giddy-up to keep up with receivers across the field like Carter, nor the punch to get after the passer like Butler.
What do you guys think? Should we try and display a better version of Denver's D from last year? They were stout enough to keep Tebow in games. Sure Butler is no Von Miller. But, Dumerville is no Demarcus Ware, Ayers is no Spencer, Tebow is no Romo, and I'd take our secondary to their's any day.
