Thoughts from Cowboys @ Chargers

So I just barely finished watching the Cowboys play the Chargers. I don't watch half games so I waited for the re-air on NFL Network to watch the entire thing, and boy am I glad I did. It was hard to stay away and not know anything about the game for a whole 36 hours or so. First of all, my lasting image of this game is actually Cole Beasley. When he caught his 7th pass for 104 yards just before the end of the game, he went over to the sideline. Teammates attempted to congratulate him but he eased them away before he puked up a bunch of water. That is when I knew that this guy gave everything he had. Michael Irvin was the last guy I remember going THAT hard. Cole Beasley better make this team. Dez Bryant's ridiculous catch may not have counted, but I think future opponents everywhere just peed their pants a little and started praying that he does something stupid off the field so they don't have to deal with him. Dude is going beast mode right now. Pleasantly surprised in the improvement of the offensive line this game. I don't care who you are going against. When your QB has THAT kind of time to throw your offensive line was doing well. Arkin is still not the guy for center but we all know that, of course I still don't believe Costa is either. But, it is what it is. Much better than last week though. The first team defense still has not allowed a score. We have been shutting teams down. We'll see if that continues into the actual season when teams start preparing for us and scheming/gameplanning. Oh yeah, and we didn't have D-Ware against the Chargers. Just imagine when we have our best player back in there with us. Hopefully Spencer provides a boost too. Ogletree had himself a pretty good game, but he did blow a huge route in the game. He and Dez ended up in the same spot in the end zone and went up to catch a Ball that was most definitely intended for Dez. Bringing extra defenders with him made it especially difficult. If he would have run the right route, whatever it was, Dez probably would have scored our first touchdown of the game. I like the improvement I have seen from him this pre-season, but just keep that in mind when you talk about him as the #3 guy. We can't afford guys running the wrong routes, especially when it causes them to run to the same area as another receiver. Teddy Williams needs to not be returning kicks. We were inside the 15 yard line on every single one of the returns. Yuck... Good to see that the only people really not doing so hot in the secondary are those behind Butler on the CB depth chart and behind McCray (and probably Johnson) on the Safety depth chart. I think we know who is going to make the team in our secondary. But we still have another game before we pass judgement and 2 more before final judgement. I like what I see from the top guys though. As it stands now, I think we got 5 corners and 4 safeties on this roster. I think Butler has earned a spot and McCray will stay along with probably Matt Johnson (even though we haven't seen him play yet.)
