The Cowboys are eight-point favorites at home over the Buccaneers this weekend, the second highest line after the Saints, who are nine-point favorites at home over the Chiefs.
Last week, 14 of 16 home teams won their games, tying the NFL record for most ever in a week. Part of the reason for that may be a home-team bias by the replacement officials, according to the Vegas bookmakers. Oddsmaker Mike Colbert of Cantor Gaming says home teams may get an extra half-point in their favor if the officiating from week two continues into the season.
Yet despite their misgivings, the oddsmakers have the away teams as the favorites to win eight of the 16 games this week.
All of this is interesting, but much more interesting is whether the Cowboys can win their home opener against Tampa Bay. Our panel of writers thinks they can. After the break, see which teams the panelists are picking in the other 15 games in week three.
After just two weeks, we already have a wide disparity in prediction accuracy of our panelists. Dave has moved in front with a solid three-game lead over Archie and rabble and a commanding 75% prediction accuracy. At the other end of the scale, Brandon and Coty have had a very rough start to the season.
Our consensus pick is cruising along as smoothly as it has in the previous years, notching a solid 66% accuracy rate over the first two weeks. At 21-11 our consensus pick is slightly ahead of the consensus pick in KDs 10-for-10 contest, which is running at 19-13.
