It really annoys me how some fans on this site will idolize a player for a good performance one week, and then ask for them to get cut if they have a bad week during the next game. Believe it or not, I have seen stuff calling for Witten to get cut. Witten! It’s amazing how one game can change a person’s view of our star players. But the truth is, we really should stop bashing on our beloved Cowboys. They are beloved right? Because from what I’ve read only me and a few others actually love them with all our hearts anymore. This is why people need to cut the Cowboys a break for their performance against the Seahawks:
Jason Witten: I swear, I am not lying when I say I have seen with my own eyes posts that say something along the lines of “Jason Witten needs to die” and “Why witten is killing the franchise”. Are you serious???? How can anyone, even a Cowboys hater up in Philly deny Witten’s value to Dallas? He has only been a weapon and a fighter for Dallas. He has done so much for the franchise that is it unimaginable. With the work he has put in, the leadership and toughness he has shown, the injuries he has fought through and the commitment he has shown to Dallas, he deserves a break. He deserves a game where he can chill on the bench. He deserves a game where he can relax and not have to think about winning. He is such a contributor that he can have 10 drops over the next two weeks but still be our starter for the rest of the 5 years that he will be in Dallas. He had a bad game. But then again, when has he ever done that? Consider the fact that he put a note on his locker before the Giants game that showed how willing he was to play through his lacerated spleen. And he played through it. When the doctors told him he couldn’t play, he even said he would sign a medical waiver if it meant he could help his teammates win. Witten is the epitome of consistency. No one can expect any player to have a perfect season or career. Witten is too important. People need to realize that, forgive him for his performance against the Seahawks, remember how much he has done for Romo, how many third downs he has been able to convert for us, and start loving him again.
DeMarcus Ware: My brain nearly exploded when people started to hate on Ware. I understand people hating him because he terrorizes everyone’s quarterback, but a Dallas fan that says they are unhappy with Ware? A Cowboys fan that says Ware needs to be replaced? This is not a Cowboys fan. I’m sorry, but for all the people that read this and don’t like Ware and call themselves Dallas fans: you are not Dallas fans. There is no way in hell that any true Dallas fan would ever call out Ware. He is knows for offsides, but he is more known for being consistent, bringing much needed pressure upon the QB, and being the best pass rusher in the league. This is a guy that can blitz sitting on the center, the guard or the tackle. He is just like Witten: he fights through everything. He is extremely committed to Dallas and is giving it every ounce of his strength to deliver a championship. Even if he retires without a ring for Dallas, I will still congratulate him and love him for what he did do for Dallas. He is a key cog to this defense. He is a leader who takes over for our pass rush when they can’t bring it. He is simply too good to release and has too much Dallas in him. No matter what anyone says, he will retire a Cowboy. And COWBOYS FANS will always be happy to have him for as long as possible. The real fans.
Dez Bryant: I understand people’s logic when they start to bash on Dez. They expect him to produce like Calvin Johnson and Larry Fitzgerald because he has the capabilities to do so. Bu they don’t understand his side of it. In Detroit, Matthew Stafford is not a great QB. He doesn’t really have any threat like Megatron. That’s why on every read, he will look for Johnson Jr. running around. He will target him more than any other player in Detroit. The case is the same for Fitz: he is the main receiving threat in a lackluster receiving core. The Cards don’t have a player that has the skills of Fitz. That’s whey Skelton/Kolb will keep their eyes on Fitz for as long as possible. Many times, these 3 QB’s don’t have a choice but to toss it to these top receivers who are double covered because no one else can get open, or there is no one else that is reliable enough to make tough catches. Then when Megatron or Fitz comes up with the ball with three defenders around him, it makes the highlight reel. It makes these players who they are. Then, people look at Dez and say, why can’t Dez do that?? The truth is he can. He can do that and possibly more. But he doesn’t get opportunities. The Cowboys have and extremely talented receiving group. Bryant is splitting passes with Witten, Austin, Murray, and now, Ogletree. With so many people that Romo can throw to on any given play, Bryant will not get that many targets. Throw in the fact the Romo can make any receiver good, and Romo suddenly has 5 guys he can give the ball to, instead of just 1 or 2 like the Cards and Lions have. Also, Bryant is only in his third year. Most people assume that the third year is the make-or-break year for a receiver. But most elite receivers don’t blow up until year 4. Bryant will not be given the ball in double coverage like Fitz and Megatron because Romo can then look at Witten, Austin, Murray, or Ogletree. The fact is, Bryant will probably not get 1000 yards this year, or just brush it. And that’s not so bad. Considering he is always the second option behind Witten. People need to stop bashing Dez for his slow start and realize his side of this situation. Dez is a man that we need to keep, and if he produces between 900-1100 yards, he is doing excellent, especially in this scheme. Also understand that he is only 23. People saw his arrest and said, arrested again. But Dez’s first arrest was this very one in July. Dez is a monster in the making, but he won’t be the top dog in Dallas for a while. Understand this, give Dez a break, and let him develop for a bit into the beast he can be.
Morris Claiborne: People aren't actually calling for Claiborne to be replaced, but there are many who think Dallas should have gotten Barron. Most everyone has seen the hit he laid on Steve Smith. They say Barron will make more tackles and plays than Claiborne. They think he is BETTER. So far, what has each player done? Barron allowed Smith to catch the ball, pick up 10 more yards, and find the sideline before getting a chance to nail him. Oh, an of course, he was one of the main reasons Eli Manning threw 510 yards against the Bucs and scored 25 points in the fourth quarter. What has Claiborne done? He shut down Hakeem Nicks, a premier receiver, in his rookie game. Has has not allowed a single touchdown or big play. People will argue that he only has 5 tackles. But that's because QB's aren't throwing the ball towards him. People will argue that he may be a bit timid when hitting a RB. Here's a personal standpoint: I played corner in high school. I know what it's like, having the smallest frame on the field and having to stop a 200 pound charging tank. It's HARD. Even the best corners will struggle against halfbacks. It's a completely ridiculous idea to say that Barron would have been a better pick over Claiborne.
All I'm really saying here is that the Dallas Cowboys fans need to show their fan face. If you're a fan, be PROUD! You are the fan of one of the greatest teams in football! You are a fan of America's Team! There is nothing to be ashamed of. Love your team, and don't hate the players. Fans, of all people, should understand their players better than anyone else. No one should love the Cowboys more than YOU. So stop hating the stars of your favorite team, realize what they have done, what they are doing, and what they will do. Please, please, please stop being negative towards your team. There is no point in being a fan if you criticize them all the time. Stay loyal, hope for the best, and always Fear the Star!
