Nick Collins, Deon Grant, O.J. Atogwe and Brodney Pool headline the free agent safeties that are out there right now. I know Nick Collins was supposed to consult a surgeon about playing football again around the start of the season but I haven't heard word on that. Brodney Pool is probably at least somewhat familiar with our defense having been here for the summer up to training camp and playing with Rob Ryan before. Personally, Grant and Atogwe don't really ring any bells for me right now, but I would love to get Collins if he can pass a physical and what not. I am all about letting Church get his spot back, however, injuries like this take a player out for a season and then the next season they play sub-par. Injuries to the ACL and Achilles tendon will typically take the entire next season to get back to 100%. So we may need to find someone to step in for Church for next season as well. I say call Collins and see what's up but Brodney Pool might be the most likely free agent option, although failing the conditioning test earlier makes me cringe at the thought.
