Fans Need To Get Some Perspective On Romo

I've been in a state of "mourning" since Sunday night's game. I have been avoiding every media source of the NFL for the past 4 days. I even turn off the television when watching the news as soon as they get to sports review. Tonight, while doing some surfing, I decided to go to one of my frequented sites...DCFanatic's blog. Many of you are probably familiar with this site. It's run by big fan of the Cowboys. I've always liked how he pulls together the daily video clips for the team in one place, so that I can avoid having to surf around to get my Cowboy updates. But one commentary he had really bothered me. He had a video of RGIII consoling Romo after the loss, apparently NFLN ran a segment on this. I didn't go to NFLN to follow up or care to...but his remarks really rubbed me the wrong way. He was a little angered at the fact that Romo stopped to listen to RGIII. What was he suppose to do...haul back and hit a guy that was trying to provide a comforting word? Romo listened, thanked him and headed back to the locker room. You don't think RGIII has seen all of the negative criticisms about Romo? Many of which are unfair and unwarranted. I just took it as a point of solidarity between QBs. Nothing more.

Fan is short for fanatic. The word fanatic is a negative/derogatory label of a person whose unreasoning enthusiasm or zeal for something is extreme or beyond normal limits. In contemporary sport terminology, a "fan" is the watered down nice version of fanatic. A sports fan has "reasoning", which means there is no disconnect with reality. But yet, we still see examples of people spewing hate and venom...frustration has caused them to blame everyone they can think of to try to get perspective. I've never agreed with a scorched earth approach to any problem.

I haven't read a thing on BTB referencing opinions on Romo, and I don't think I will get back into my normal review of BTB for another week. I need that time to gain some perspective. But I can imagine that the board is split between camps offering support for Romo and those that want to chop off his head and stick it on a spike. I don't have to read a blessed thing to realize how things work. I'm still trying to formulate in my own head how I feel about the state of our team. I will say that I've lost some faith in Romo, although I haven't given up on him. I think he is a good to very good QB, but he hasn't shown me enough to think he is in the highest echelon of NFL QBs. For perspective, I don't thing RGIII has reached that level either, but he has demonstrated his potential. The reality is that we don't have a better option at QB right now. We need to draft someone to develop. That is a certainty, but for the next 2-3 years, our best option for success is Romo. I'm absolutely not going to be bragging about him, but I don't discount the fact that without him, we never make it to that final game with a chance to win the division. I just hope that the people in charge are making rational/measured decisions in the weeks and months to come. We need to approach our offseason with the goal of improving our team and making it more competitive.
