I read this site daily but rarely post. But today is an odd + bad day for my Cowboy fanhood. I was a big fan of the Jason Garrett hire and have always been a Romo fan. I was hopeful that the last two 8-8 seasons were just stepping stones to a new winning culture in Dallas. But at the end of the first half last night, against one of the premier coach/quarterback combinations in the history of the league, Jason Garrett was, in my mind, exposed. At least for me, I no longer believe he can grow into a winning football mind that can lead his team to a championship. He is no Sean Payton - not even close. He isn't Andy Reid. He's not either of the Harbaugh brothers. He is on par with Norv or Kubiak or Leslie Frazier. Nice people - completely mediocre. The Peter Principle on full display.I also believe Romo has been exposed. I think he could have been (and might still become) a QB that can deliver a championship, but not without a lot of help and especially not without good coaching. He simply can't deliver the goods on his own. Maybe that is too much to ask of anyone not named Manning or Brees, but he is not that guy. He could have been that guy with some better coaching (maybe if Parcells had stayed around). But no matter how much JJ pays him or how much we all want him to carry this team, he hasn't delivered. At roughly the two minute mark in the first half last night, Chris Collinsworth made a comment that the Cowboys seemed resigned to the fact that Tony Romo was just going to have to put the game on his shoulders. With the game on his shoulders he "delivered" two straight quick outs (one at the end of the half and the other at the beginning of the first half). The Saints, on the other hand, scored on both and the game was over.
Today I'm officially off the Kool Aid. I will still fly my Cowboys flag on game day (in the middle of Redskins country) but I sincerely hope Jerry has seen enough and will fire Garrett at the end of the season. I think Callahan should be fired right now so he can start there. Kiffin is a disaster. I still believe there is hope for Romo but not with Garrett. That duo has produced nothing but mediocrity, and something has to give. Totally bummed. I really dread the remainder of the season.
