DeMarcus Ware Prepares For His Return To Action

Not a pretty sight for opposing QBs - Jed Jacobsohn

After missing games for the first time in his career, defensive end DeMarcus Ware looks to return to action this week.

The quarterback of the New Orleans Saints, Drew Brees, knows the kind of impact that DeMarcus Ware has on a game.

"He’s a stud. He’s such a stud. He’s a guy you’ve got to have a plan for at all times. Where is he? How you protect [against] him? How you take care of him? All that stuff. You know the leadership he brings. You know the productivity that he brings. He’s just a game-changer, so you’ve always got to be ready for him." - Drew Brees

Brees' statement alone lets you know the kind of impact that DWare has on an opposing offense. He should know, during his career, the Cowboys pass rusher has gotten to Brees four times, including a two sack performance in 2009 that helped end the Saints bid for an undefeated season during their Super Bowl year. It was a Ware strip-sack of Brees that finally sealed the Saints fate that day.

This time around, Ware is fighting his way back from a quadriceps injury that has sidelines him for the past three weeks. ( Some of you will remember that the week before that 2009 game, Ware was coming off of a neck injury which did not cause him to miss any time.) Of that injury, Ware stated, "I didn’t think I was going to play for a long time." Not only did he play, #94 turned in one of the better outings of his career. He will be looking for a repeat of that performance this weekend when the Cowboys invade the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, but Ware knows that it will not be easy.

"It’s hard to get him (Drew Brees) down. He’s very elusive. He actually can throw with his left hand and flip it with his right. He finds a way to get the ball off. He has a lot of weapons on his offense, so you’ve got to find some way, first of all, to stop the run and you have to get pressure on him. That’s the key. You have to get pressure on him."- DeMarcus Ware

Ware realizes that he has his work cut out for him to make up for lost time. Only during his rookie season has he finished outside the top ten in the league for sacks, but currently he is in a tie for 37th. To get back to where he normally is, Ware is going to have to become a sack machine over the final weeks of the season. Getting to Brees a couple times on Sunday night would be a great way for him to get started on just such a streak. While it is now unlikely that he will be a top ten sack guy in 2013, Ware is not letting up.

"I’m behind so I guess I’ve got to hop on the saddle and start riding a little bit," - DeMarcus Ware

No matter if he gets back among the leaders or not, there is little doubt that quarterbacks around the NFL will be keeping their eyes on Ware. Ride'em Cowboy!
