Fans of the Dallas defense should not fear great quarterbacks but rather big receivers

Philip Rivers, Peyton Manning, Matt Stafford, Drew Brees, Matt McGloin, and Josh McCown all faced the Cowboys and posted a cumulative 118.51 passer rating. Those teams averaged 38.33 points against the Dallas defense.

Besides McGloin, every quarterback won the game against Dallas. While Rivers, Manning, Stafford, and Brees are recognized as great quarterbacks, McCown just roasted the Cowboys for 45 points.

How did McCown measure up favorably with some of the best quarterbacks in the NFL by posting such impressive numbers against the Cowboys?

His wide receivers.

Brandon Marshall finished with 6 receptions for 100 and Alshon Jeffery logged 5 catches for 84 yards and one touchdown. Marshall is 6' 4" and Jeffery is 6' 3".

Here is how other receivers measuring at least 6' 3" and speedy tight ends fared against the Cowboys pass defense this season:

The Green Bay Packers have Jordy Nelson (6' 3") leading the team in receptions. The Eagles have Riley Cooper.

Those are the only two receivers the Cowboys face that are 6' 3" or taller left on the schedule. Considering that Flynn and Cousins are the quarterbacks leading up to the anticipated annual NFC East championship game, the Dallas defense should be focusing on the large receivers.

It seems that the defense lacks a cornerback or safety capable of matching up with tall receivers. The duel between Jordy Nelson and the Cowboys secondary could decide the outcome of the game.

Fortunately, the Redskins lack that big, accomplished receiver. The Eagles have Cooper, a receiver that has made big plays in games against the Cowboys.

Can the Dallas defense come up big these last three weeks?
