The Dallas Cowboys’ lack of QB sacks in recent weeks has been a source of great frustration lately. A look at Football Outsiders offensive line rankings helps to clear things up very quickly.
Dallas has not defeated a single team ranked above the 13 spot for pass protection. Denver, Detroit, Chicago and New Orleans occupy spots 1,2,3 and 4. San Diego ranks 7th.
The seven teams Dallas has defeated occupy these positions in pass protection: Minnesota: 14th, St. Louis: 17th, New York: 24th, Washington: 27th, Philadelphia: 30th, Oakland, 32nd.
Now a true fan is asking one question at this point: What is Green Bay ranked?
A good match-up for Dallas. Also good: DeMarcus Ware is getting annoyed with questions about his age and his lack of production. I’ve always felt that if Ware had one fault as a pass rusher, it was that he didn’t seem to play angry enough. He is such great guy, but I wish he would channel Ratliff’s nastiness on the field.
Now he is reportedly the healthiest he’s been since the start of the season and he has reason to play a bit angry this Sunday.
And he is going against a rookie left tackle.
Now add in Jerry Jones requesting more blitzes, and things are pointing up in the department of sacks.
I certainly won’t be making victory predictions after that horror show in Chicago, but I will predict that opposing QB’s are going to be a little less comfortable.
Or maybe they’ll all just burn Dallas with the screen pass. We’ll know soon enough.
