We lose a game we should have won. but we still are in decent shape to win the division IF we can beat Cousins and Washington and then beat Philly at home because we will have swept the East. I know prospects still wouldn't be good for a playoff win but we would be at home for the game so anything could happen.
So Jerry said gamble on defense. We did and got burned once the GB O-lline just gave up and started holding on every play. Not only did blitzing leave our DB's exposed, it also caused us to run our selves out of position on running plays.
Offense played well enough to win. I know two interceptions at the end. On the first Romo escapes a certain sack and throws the ball to an open Miles Austin, it's slightly behind and a fantastic close by Shields yields the Int. On the second, Beasley says he broke off his route resulting in an overthrow. Yes, perhaps we should have been running on the Austin pick, but did you see how many GB had in the box in the play? In that situation we needed to run the clock and make first downs. As the commercial says "or" wouldn't have worked. So I don't blame Romo for trying to get the first down.
So like the previous two years we can still make the playoffs and we can still miss the playoffs. But progress has been made. Going in to this year not many thought the OL would be as good as it has been, but it has turned out to be a strength. On offense we probably need OL line depth and a developmental QB. Defense, we need DL, DL, DL, LB LB, CB and CB, not necessarily in that order. I think we are good at safety for at least a year or so. Church has played well, Heath had been reasonably solid, and Wilcox has talent but is still a work in progress. If Johnson ever gets on the field and is half as good as people seem to think he is we should be set there. Kicking game is solid.
Coaching: Callahan has to be given some of the credit for the offensive line play even if his play calling is suspect. Kiffin and Marinelli should get at least another year to coach this defense with healthy players. Yes Ryan had injuries as well, but apparently he did not work as well in the system as Kiffin and Marinelli do. Let's give them some players to work with and see how they do.
Two more weeks and we will either be 9-7 or 8-8 and in the playoffs or 8-8 or or 7-9 and staying home. Personally I think is a flip of the coin as to which way we wind up. Let's go. Sweep the East and we're in.
