Scandrick: 'You can't chase the dollar forever' - Tim MacMahon, ESPN Dallas
Scandrick explains why he essentially took a paycut with his recently signed extension: He didn’t want to have to worry about being a cap casualty, and didn’t want to end up being dealt "down to Jacksonville, off to Buffalo, even further away from my kids."

"I wanted to be here," Scandrick said. "My kids come here. It’s not all about me. You can’t chase the dollar forever, man. It’s not all about the money. I don’t play this game for money."

"I wanted to be here. I’m familiar with the way things are here. It’s going to be seven years here next year. At some point in time, you’ve got to stop chasing money. I mean, I’ve made a ton of money, over $20 million," Scandrick said. "What the hell? What can’t I buy with 20 than I can buy with 24 or 25?"

'Sound FX': Dez Bryant Dez Bryant mic'd up during Packers game - NFL Videos
The mercurial wide receiver was picked to wear a microphone during the loss against the Packers, and the resulting film provides an interesting perspective that goes beyond the usual hysterical headlines. Best bit: Bryant didn't sit down on the sidelines because, as he says, every time he stood up, "something bad happens for Green Bay." (1:00 minute mark).

Jason Garrett: Dallas Cowboys are fortunate to have Tony Romo; ‘I have great faith in Tony’ - Jon Machota, DMN
Garrett has some nice words for his quarterback.

"I have great faith in Tony because I’ve been around him when he’s done so many great things for us in all quarters of the game to help us win a lot of ballgames around here," Garrett said Wednesday. "There’s a tremendous amount of evidence of that. He’s not perfect. Nobody’s perfect."

"I think you look at how he stacks up with a lot of other players in this league at that position and he stacks up very favorably," Garrett said. "We’re fortunate to have him as our quarterback and excited to see him play this week."

Selvie says Cowboys defensive line will be best when it makes plays together
George Selvie has quietly put up seven sacks so far this season - which incidentally is more than Anthony Spencer had in all but one of his seven NFL seasons - but went through a stretch of four games without a sack before Sunday.

"The last three games, I hardly made any plays, and Hatcher and D-Ware made plays," he said. "We need to get out there as a defense, as defensive linemen, and make plays together. That’s when we’ll be our best."

DeMarco Murray wants chance to close out games - Tim MacMahon, ESPN Dallas
Yeah, so do we.

Cowboys' takeaways have disappeared as they have only one in the past two games - Charean Williams, Star-Telegram
Williams notes that the Cowboys are only plus-one in turnovers over the last five games, and have gone 2-3 as a result.

"You just have to keep doing it," Cowboys defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin said. "Like I say sometimes, turnovers are like sacks. They come in bunches. Hopefully they’ll work the other way the next week."

Kiffin: Say What You Want, Ware’s Been Banged Up - Rowan Kavner, DallasCowboys.com
DeMarcus Ware sat out practice yesterday, and the latest injury report shows that Ware is still struggling with injuries, and it's not his leg injury, it's his back that's bothering Ware.

"D-Ware, you may say whatever you want, the guy’s been banged up," said defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin. "He’s trying to play hurt, and you’ve got to admire the guy for that, but he wants to play better and we want him to play better."

Cowboys linebacker Bruce Carter says he's ready for Sunday - Todd Archer, ESPN Dallas
And he'd better be, because Sean Lee, Ernie Sims, and Justin Durant will all be out.

Russell Wilson, Colin Kaepernick: The Rise of the Discount QB - WSJ.com
In an age where teams are willfully putting a salary cap noose around their own necks with $100 M contracts for their franchise quarterbacks, it's the teams that are paying their QBs like backup tackles that are the most successful:

Of the 12 teams currently in position to make the playoffs, eight rank in the bottom half of the league for quarterback salaries. Conversely, of the top 15 highest-paid quarterbacks, only four are on track to make the playoffs.

The WSJ argues that it won't be long before teams start doing the previously unthinkable and decline to keep their star quarterback in favor of salary cap space to build the rest of the team.
