Being an avid and rabid football fan, I not only watch the games as a faux armchair signal-caller, but I often play simulations of football games in Madden. Now, I realize this videogame is only a simulation, but after reading the posts regarding fan speculation as to whether Harris would or would not be used well out of the backfield, I have a pretty seasoned Madden inspired two cents to throw in.
I don't know why it is, but in Madden Dwayne Harris is ranked a little under a C at throwing the ball. He is speedy, and he is good in space. I often run a Pistol with Dwayne Harris running a read-option or play action with one or two reads. of course I don't suggest using Dwayne Harris as a change of pace QB in real life lol. No... but I ponder as to why EA sports would make Harris a average accuracy pass thrower?
I knew they had this setting for Muhammed Sanu from the Bengals, and after he threw an end-around pass-option touchdown a couple of weeks ago it was revealed on the broadcast that Sanu used to be a QB in college.
Could this be an interesting wrinkle? Did Harris ever play Quarterback?
I would say in my opinion this wrinkle alone, consistently exploited with SIMPLE reads and the option to run would make Dwayne Harris' abilities in space an incredible asset to the Cowboys out of the backfield on a limited change of pace basis of 10-15 plays a game.
Obviously with jobs on the line, Garrett and company would rather play things closer to the vest. You are not going to see them employing this strategy or any of my other Madden strategies (including a plethora of two point conversion scenarios), but it is sometimes interesting to wonder... would it work?
