The line is downright offensive. Status quo won't cut it

The number that blows my mind the most is 1. That is 1 first round offensive lineman selected by our beloved Cowboys in the Jerry Jones era. That total needs to jump plus 1 in this years draft. In fact the total number of offensive lineman selected in the first 2 rounds by Jerry since 1995 is a staggering 6!

Its no secret building through the draft is the way to go to win on a consistent basis. This is even more true when it comes to the offensive line, but not just anywhere in the draft but early and often. This isnt to say you cant find quality free agent lineman to come in and have a big impact, but it only benefits the franchise if the line can be had mostly within.

Which brings me to this current group of Cowboys offensive lineman. Its time for Jerry to scratch status quo and start building the right way. This current group is filled with a 1st round pick, an UDFA, an UDFA, a 7th round pick and a small school 4th round pick who wasnt ready until his 3rd year. THAT WILL NOT CUT IT! All but 1 player was selected in the first 3 rounds.

Lets take a quick look at the 2 super bowl participants starting groups.

San Fransisco 49ers - 3 of the 5 selected in the first round

Baltimore Ravens- 3 of the 5 selected in the first 2 rounds

We can all agree that both groups were and are a huge part of their current success. They say its a copy cat league, well i do not think Jerry is getting the memo.

For all the talent the talking heads scream this team has, it is lacking talent at the most important unit on the field. Its time for Jerry to end that talent drought and start selecting the best of the talent early and often. That doesnt mean taking 2 O lineman with the first 2 picks (although me personally wouldnt be at all upset) but it means taking the cream of the crop.

If the Cooper, Warmack, Warford, Jones, ect types are there in the 1st, 2nd and even 3rd rounds we cannot keep ignoring them year in and year out. . Consistent winners are built in the trenches, its no coincidence this team hasnt been consistent over the last 5 years even with premium skill position talent. We all know the numbers 31st in rushing, franchise worst rushing yard totals, coming off a franchise worse rushing TD total. Not to mention Romo getting obliterated in back to back seasons.

I do realize we have glaring needs at Safety, and could use another starter on the Defensive line. But if the O line is not addressed early this year and possibly often we can probably expect another up and down season where we see Romo playing Houdini. Status quo will not cut it.
