Recently there was an article about this by Mr. Ryle, I believe. I want to start this off by saying I love this site. I come here for all my Cowboy's news, even when I see a quote by a turd like Calvin Watkins. That said I will take issue with some comments I saw posted on the issue of violence against women.
The comment I responded to was about someone calling another blogger a fool. I stated that it was not nice to call someone a fool. I believe that the old good book talks about not calling each other fools. Not a religious scholar, so if I am wrong, well it won't be the first time.
This comment was followed up by mentioning that I was talking about some kind of feminist plot to castrate men or demonize men. I exaggerate slightly. Another comment was directed at commenters being ridiculed even if they sincerely believed they were correct. Another talked about children being abused versus some adult.
I apologize up front about my following comments, but can I just say that bloggers often comment on subjects they know absolutely nothing about. Abuse is horrifying if your a child, a man, a woman, a dog, anything that is abused is suffering and there is no degree of suffering that is greater or more justified. Michael Vick
killed dogs. That tormented my mind to think of a dog suffering. I know it touched us all or a lot of us. Is it cool to abuse women, no more so than it is to abuse a dog. If I comparing a woman to a dog? The answer is yes, abuse is always wrong, no matter who the victim is. A couple of people stated that they felt sorry that I was abused as a child, but that is not what we were talking about. I thought the subject was abuse, not who was getting abused. I know the article was about women and abuse, but that is often the problem. When it is someone or something else that is being abused, we can downplay it because well it was only a dog, it was only a man, whatever.
It is so easy to compartmentalize. I have had to do it all my life! I have had to put away my abuse as a child and carry on as a normal functioning human. Okay abnormal human being. If you want to talk to me about abuse, let's not start by demeaning what happened to me and others by saying well women they are so much more abused or its worse when it happens to a woman and committed by a man. BUllshit! I will tell you that women who are abused notoriously abuse the male members of their family. There was not one female member of my family that did not abuse me in some way or another. Its a fact and no I am not going to cite you stats. I lived it. Not all women abuse their children. that is a fact and no I have no stats for that either. Being abused draws you into a cycle of abuse. It will be passed on and that again is a fact. I suffered every kind of abuse a human can suffer and I made it out the other side. Most do not. I have been in therapy for years and each time they tell me it is a wonder that I am not dead or in prison. It is about being strong enough to try and break that abusive cycle. I cannot always say that I have been successful, but I have always tried to be a better person than those who taught me.
I love movies and it was a large part of my insulation from what happened to me, so I will leave you guys with this from Platoon. Abuse! What do you know about Abuse! Love that Tom Berenger. I appreciate all the great comments you guys post, the articles that all of the writers write, but please stick to what you know and what the blog is normally about and that is football. Not that everyone can't comment on anything they want to, I just enjoy the football comments more than an article about abuse and people commenting on things that are not real to them. Football is real to all of us. Abuse thank God is not. Thanks for the forum and I promise not to go off like this very often. After all what I just did was abuse some of your minds with my own horror story.
