Tavon Austin and Ziggy Ansah have GMs and scouts salivating. They are elite athletes that have the tools to dominate their positions. Who is the better athlete?
The WVU slot WR ran the second best 40 of anybody at the combine. On top of that, he put in 14 reps on the 225lb Bench press, which is pretty impressive when you think about it: Tavon is generously listed at 175lbs, and the weight is 225lbs. Benching your weight alone is a sign that you are strong for your size. Doing it 14 times at your weight is even more impressive. Doing 50lbs more that weight 14 times? Damn. On top of sheer strength and in line speed, Tavon is agile and explosive. Look at any internet highlight reel, Tavon accelerates as well as any wideout in college, and has elite change of direction ability (2nd at combine in 20 yard SS).
The BYU passrusher has the tools to be as good as any outside rusher in the NFL. With Ziggy, its a little simpler though. He ran a 4.63 in the 40, good for 6th best among pass rushers (despite being a solid 30lbs heavier than many of his fellow DEs/OLBs). Ziggy also has insane explosion, as evidenced by impressive numbers in the Vertical and Broad Jumps (Top 10 in both), and his combine best 4.26 20 yard SS (for DEs/OLBs). Don't ignore his pure strength, while he didn't dominate the bench press, (he still notched an okay 21 reps) he plays very very strong.
Numbers are per NFL.com/combine.
