Pick 18: Draft Math and Doomsday

Don't worry- I'm not about to break out calculus or something- but I do want to address the 18th pick doomsday scenarios with a little arithmetic. Below, I will ease your doomsday concerns, and show that a darn good prospect will find his way to pick number 18. To do this, I will show 18 good prospects, and if my math works out, that means one will be available for our Cowboys.

The Big 5 OL-These are pretty obvious, and all are great players with high NFL ceilings (low floors for the most part). The tackles would start day one at LT (with the exception on Johnson at RT), and the guards would start day one at either OG spot.

LT Luke Joeckel

LT Eric Fisher

LT Lane Johnson

G Jonathan Cooper

G Chance Warmack

Next, We have the 3 high end DT prospects. All would be day one starters (Floyd and Richardson at 3 tech, Lotulelei at 1 tech)

DT Shariff Floyd

DT Sheldon Richardson

DT Star Lotulelei

After the interior pass rushers, we have the outside rushers. These guys would take some slack off Ware and Spencer at either DE spot.

DE/OLB Dion Jordan

DE/OLB Ezekial Ansah

DE/OLB Bjoern Werner

Okay, thats 11 so far, being pretty conservative. Now, lets move on to LB prospects. Both from Georgia, Jones would likely play an OLB spot and rush on pass downs, while Ogletree could play any LB spot.

LB Jarvis Jones

LB Alec Ogletree

For our 14th selection, we have a no-brainer at saftey.

FS/SS Kenny Vaccaro.

But that's only 14! Actually, there are a few guys who are going to push some of the above guys down on draft day, who are definetly being drafted ahead of pick 18.

QB Geno Smith

CB Dee Milliner

Okay, so we're at 16. Catch your breath, because there are another handful of prospects very likely to go before 18.

CB Xaiver Rhodes

OLB Barkevious Mingo

QB Matt Barkley (or some other phantom QB)

WR Tavon Austin

WR Cordarelle Patterson

TE Tyler Eiftert

And what if not enough (which, granted, is just two) of the above are drafted before 18? Then we're "stuck" with a few decent football players left.

FS Eric Reid

DT Sylvester Williams

DE Cornellius Carradine

RT DJ Fluker

Hopefully this allows you to sleep a little better at night. But then again, the pick depends on Jerry pulling the trigger on the right guy. And that throws logic out the window.
