Well, like some of you may be doing, I am looking at a bunch of different possibilities for players in the later rounds. One intriguing player you aren't hearing much about is Latavius Murray. His stock is on the rise, and he has some very favorable stats to back up this rise on draft boards.
Murray ran for 1,106 yards, 5.6 yards-per-carry, and 15 touchdowns at Central Florida in 2012 (even though he missed 3 games). This kid never had more than 198 carries in a season. For some, that may bode as a negative stat, but I see a player with limited college miles on his body, and for a guy who is 6'3'', 223 lbs, that isn't a bad thing. And get this - at his pro day, he ran a 4.38 forty, bench pressed 22 times, had a 36" vertical, and had a 10-4 broad jump. He did have an average 20 yard shuttle of 4.36, but that is about the only "average" aspect of his game I was able to find. According to DFWNBC, He also "caught 44 passes over the past two seasons at Central Florida and he looks really good in pass protection". Murray had a total of 4 receving TD's in 2012, and a career 50 catches and 524 receiving yards. To top all of this off, Murray has never (yes, I said never) lost a fumble in his college career. Knile Davis who?
Now, I don't know what shiny new toys Dallas will have by the time the 5th or 6th round arrives, but I would certainly lean more towards this kid versus Knile Davis who has a proven history of injuries, as well as a propensity to cough up the rock. I have mentioned Davis' 3 major injuries between 2009 - 2011 (2 broken ankles, including surgery both times) and a broken collar bone. Rena knows my opinion on Davis all too well. Knile certainly tore it up at the combine, but I would argue Murray tore it up pretty well himself at his pro day. This kid has some serious upside, IMO, and as a result, I am certainly more enamored with Murray than I am with Davis.
So, Blogging the Boys members, what do you think? I know I will be watching the draft intently tomorrow evening, but there are always a few gems to be had in the later rounds, and I believe Murray is a legitimate sleeper. As a result, I will definitely be monitoring the later rounds of the draft as well. Can you imagine the duo of Murray and Murray in the Dallas backfield? This has an M & M commercial written all over it.
I would appreciate any feedback. And btw, this just so happens to be my inaugural FanPost
