Travis Frederick?!?!!!

Before everyone jumps off the bridge over the Travis Frederick selection with our first round draft choice, let's keep a few things in mind:

1. This is not the usual Jerry Jones glamor pick where he goes for flash. This is a plain vanilla pick in an area of extreme need (the interior offensive line). So it's hard to see Jerry sweeping aside his board or going against his scouts and coaches on this one. In other words, this pick has The Process written all over it.

2. None of us has anywhere near the access to information about this player that the Cowboys do. They got to interview him, talk to his coach, and who know what all else. And they can invest all the time they want on any player in the world.

3. Since 2010, for whatever reason, the Cowboys have done a pretty good job of drafting. Unless they revert back to their 2009 drafting patterns, I think we need to cut the Cowboys some slack. Dez, Tyron Smith, Bruce Carter, Sean Lee, DeMarco Murray, Mo Claiborne are a fantastic foundation. Plus there is a lot of depth from those drafts and guys with promise.

4. Finally, and most importantly, Travis Frederick has a first round beard. That thing is just magnificent. You half expect him to walk around with an axe and pillage an English village or two.

And by the way, I like that we traded down and got another third rounder. Lots of people where saying that the top of the draft was weak in terms of real game changers but that the from about pick 15 to 80 the talent was pretty good and pretty even. So I'm not buying the Cowboys got robbed. And I think the Jimmy Johnson draft value chart has serious flaws. What really matters is the level of talent from year to year.

Mostly thought, I'm very happy about that beard. You could sweep your garage with that thing. So how bad could that guy be? Best of all, we've got two full days left of cursing our TVs and snarling at our wives and kids. So the fun is just beginning.
