Dallas Cowboys News & Links: Matt Johnson Hype, Healthiest Team Will Win NFC East, More

Tim Heitman-US PRESSWIRE

In our review of Dallas Cowboys headlines, we look at how Brandon Carr can see "what all the hype was about" regarding Matt Johnson, wonder whether the healthiest team will win the NFC East and examine why Terrance Williams thinks Romo is doing a great job in practices despite not participating.

Brandon Carr after watching Matt Johnson practice, 'I can kind of see what all the hype was about' - DMN
The DMN has a transcript of Carr's appearance on the Ben & Skin show, in which Carr gave the following assessment about the Cowboys safeties:

"I feel Barry Church was on his way to making a name for himself. He’s coming off the injury and looking explosive, looking just as good. Also, Matt Johnson is back off his injuries and is out there playing. I can see his range as a safety. I can kind of see what all the hype was about him coming out of college last year.”

Top 10 teams benefiting from return of injured players - NFL.com
Chris Wesseling examines which teams stand to benefit the most from players returning after missing significant action due to injuries in 2012. Naturally, the Cowboys make the list:

The Cowboys surrendered nearly 30 points per over the final six games of last season, as two of the game's best young linebackers sat out along with four-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Ratliff, starting strong safety Church and nickelback Scandrick. Lee will patrol the middle of Monte Kiffin's defense while Carter is being counted on to fill the old Derrick Brooks role at weak-side linebacker. Both are candidates to earn their first Pro-Bowl berths in what should be one of the NFL's most improved defenses.

Wesseling also inadvertently points out what may be the deciding factor in the battle for the NFC East crown, and it's not coaching, it's not scheme, and it's not offseason personnel moves. It's team health: In addition to the Cowboys, the Giants, Redskins and Eagles all make the list of the top ten teams that will benefit most from the return of injured players.

Terrance Williams: Tony Romo 'doing a great job' in helping me with offense - DMN
the DMN has a transcript of Terrance Williams' appearance on ESPN Radio 1250 AM in San Antonio, in which Williams talks about what he's learned from Dez Bryant and Miles Austin so far, reflects on facing former teammate Robert Griffin twice a year and how Tony Romo has helped in practices despite not actively participating.

“He’s continued to help us out from the stuff he sees and he gives us different ways on how we can connect the route better and different ways that we can modify it. He’s also doing a great job in helping me out with just getting lined up and how to run stuff certain ways. It’s just like he’s just a coach without throwing the football.”

Trainer lifts game - Sidney Morning Herald
News reaches us from the other side of the world that the Cowboys will conduct a speed and agility workshop at the Michael Johnston Performance Centre next month. Australian sprint trainer Roger Fabri has been invited to help coach that event after he impressed the Cowboys at previous clinics.

Michael Vick declares himself the fastest quarterback in the NFL - SI.com

"These guys are young and they’re fast and they’re quick, the thing I do have is a very quick get-up," Vick said. "I really don’t feel like there’s a quarterback in the league who can beat me in a 40-yard dash. If somebody wants to set something up, I’ll be more than glad to accept the challenge. But as of right now I’m going to say me. But Colin Kaepernick is fast and RG3 is fast as well."

Is Vick, who apparently just recently learned how to carry the football, the fastest guy with or without the football? And does anybody actually care?
