I have to say that I haven't really hated the Cowboys since the rivalries of the 90's, it hasn't been the same since then. Don't get me wrong, I hate to lose any game to your team, but other than that, I'm kinda indifferent to them. I don't think they ever replaced the loss of Jimmy Johnson. I had respect for him because he brought an attitude, an edge to the game. I think our new coach, Chip Kelly, will bring some of that to our team, I don't think we've ever had a coach of this caliber on our team, at least since I've watched from the early 90's onwards.
I know some of you compare Chip to the other unsuccessful college coaches in recent memory, but I think your coach in the 80's, also made a leap from college to the pros and eventually ended up being pretty successful. But just as Chip Kelly's success is totally unrelated to what Jimmy Johnson did, I think it also applies to the other examples we use like Spurrier, etc. Each coach is an entity by themselves. You really can't compare... of course you can, but it's not relevant. Our thinking as Eagles fans is that he'll come into the sport and revolutionize it in many ways. But we won't know until he actually proves it, but as a fan of the team, that's our expectation, hope, wishful thinking, whatever you want to call it.
Now you're wondering, "blah, blah, blah... why do we care ? Why are you sharing all this with us ?" The reason is that although you hate the Eagles, I'm sure, when you watch them play, at least for two games this year, I would like for you to keep an eye on Chip Kelly and what he's bringing to the NFL. Not as a fan of the Cowboys, but as a fan of football. And although I don't ever expect you to root for the team, I would hope that you would appreciate the innovation that he brings to the game. Now if it's happening against your team, I doubt if you'll be able to do that. So I'd recommend watching an Eagles game (I know it's a lot to ask) where you don't have a rooting interest.
Just watch, and appreciate this man, appreciate what he brings to the game without any bias, just for the love of the sport. Now you might be thinking, "you're getting a little ahead of yourself there, he hasn't done anything yet." But he has, for those of us following the team closely, he has already changed the culture, sense of urgency and whole dynamic of the team in a few short months. And that is no small task to achieve in the NFL with the players that we have today. And you might ask, "why are you sharing this with us, even if it is true, we don't want to hear about it." Well, I understand that as a fan of a rival team, I wouldn't be interested in hearing about this either. And normally I wouldn't do this, but I think this is a rare exception, and after my give and take with some fans from this site over the last week, I think you have a lot of sensible fans, who would be able to see the bigger picture of the sport, and appreciate the new era of football that Chip Kelly might bring into the NFL.
At the end of the day, you might not be interested at all and could care less, and I understand that. But for those who love the game, I just wanted to share this with you, so you're able to follow this from the start.
Good luck to your team this year (except for at least the two games against the Birds) and hope you have an enjoyable year watching your team and watching football in general ! Can't wait for it all to start.... :)
P.S. I come in peace !
