Alternate BTB Fantasy League

Greetings

If you, like me, did not get selected for one of the official fantasy leagues here, I would like to run another unofficial one. I'm setting up the basics of the league basically as the default settings in terms of waivers, free agents, trades. It will be a 12-man league. I'm contemplating setting it up as a keeper league, so if you're interested give me your preference.

As some of you may recall from my 2112-Pack Fanposts, I like beer, so I'm calling this league Beer with the Boys.

The draft will be 7:30pm Eastern / 6:30 Central on the 27th of August. This is just slightly before the official BTB leagues, which start at 8/7pm, but as you'll see our draft will last a little longer. This is because my personal preferences are a little more complex than normal. My rosters are larger (15 starters/10 bench) and I have a lot of stat categories. You'll find the roster and scoring information down below.

If you're interested or have questions, put your email address in a comment or email me directly at rob@kotn.org.

Anyway, on to the nuts and bolts.

Rosters

QB 1
RB 2
WR 3
TE 1
Offense Flex 1
DL 2
LB 2
DB 2
Defense Flex 1
Bench 10

There's a total of 25 players, including 8 offensive starters and 7 defensive. Yeah, that's a lot of defensive players but I love defense :) Also, there's no kicker. I personally think a kicker in fantasy football is silly because luck plays such an important part of that position week in and week out. There's a reason we all draft it last.

Below is the scoring. Some notes. First, lots of categories. I personally prefer diverse ways to score points. I dislike it when there is one successful strategy. Hopefully, one can do pretty well with different approaches here. We'll see, it is the first time I've set up a league in this manner.

Second, lots of negative categories. Bad plays should be penalized, and if you could have fantasy football assign points for penalties, I'd do that too.

Third, it's fractional scoring, so each yard actually counts. I hate it when a player gets 88 yards or 79 yards or something like that.

Fourth, I've assigned 0.5 points per reception, adjust your thinking with that in mind. Because this increases the value of everybody but QBs, I set passing touchdowns at 6.

Fifth, I did include return yardage. I am a big believer in hidden yardage, so it all counts, but because equating return yardage with rushing and receiving yardage can be overbalancing, I have set up return yards to count the same as passing yards. In any case, this makes, for example, Dwayne Harris much more valuable.

Note that some of these things are cumulative. For example, you get 1 bonus point at 300 yards, 1 at 400 yards, and 1 at 500 yards, for a total of 3 bonus points. An interception costs you -1 point, but a pick-6 costs -2 for a total of -3. A tackle is 1 point, but you also get a point for a tackle for loss so that's 2 points total. You get the picture, but pedantic Rob is pedantic :)

I look forward to the year and the competition.
