Tony Romo poised to win playoff game, more NFL bold predictions - Don Banks, SI.com
Don Banks headlines his twenty NFL predictions with a prediction about Tony Romo and the Cowboys:

"Tony Romo has been rewarded lavishly for that one career playoff win, but this is the year he finally sheds his reputation for losing in the biggest games, helping Dallas earn the NFC East crown they've narrowly missed out on the past two years. Nothing will come easily for these Cowboys, but Romo will make the difference between victory and defeat in key situations, helping save Jason Garrett's job and delivering at least one playoff win in the house known as Jerry World."

Dez focused on beating the Giants, motivated by last season’s replay-negated miracle catch - Tom Orsborn, MySA.com
Asked about last season's negated TD catch, Bryant initially sounded non-chalant:

"Oh, man…I don’t even think about it," Bryant said Thursday.

After a pause, Bryant came clean, saying, "I lied. I do."

Five issues from the Dallas Cowboys preseason - Todd Archer, ESPN Dallas
Archer identifies five key issues that may affect how the Cowboys play the regular season. He leads off with both lines and adds the running game, special teams and team health as question marks.

It was a nice preseason of takeaways for the Cowboys, but as Will Allen says, 'We haven't won a real game yet' - Carlos Mendez, Star-Telegram
10 takeaways in the preseason and not allowing a TD to the opposing starters mean nothing if the Cowboys can't carry it over into the regular season.

"We haven’t won a real game yet. You know?" [safety Will Allen] said after Thursday night’s preseason finale against the Houston Texans. "I mean, that’s not been accomplished. So there’s a lot that needs to be done. There’s a 16-week season and a four-week single-elimination playoff. So there’s a lot that hasn’t been accomplished."

"Yes, we’ve played hard. Yes, we’ve caused turnovers, and that’s something that hasn’t happened here of late. But that’s just a start. We’re just scratching the surface. And that’s how I look at it."

2013 NFL Defensive Player Rankings: DeMarcus Ware is No. 5 - ESPN
Ware rounds out ESPN's top five defensive players in the NFL with a HoF-worthy resume:

"Ware leads all players with 111.0 sacks since his NFL debut in 2005. His current streak of seven straight seasons with at least 11 sacks is the second longest in the NFL since sacks became official in 1982."

This Is Not The Same Ol' Story For The Cowboys - Mickey Spagnola, DallasCowboys.com

In his rambling manner, Spagnola makes an interesting point - These were the defensive players left on the field at the end of the week 17 game against the Redskins last year: DE DeMarcus Ware, DE Marcus Spears, DT, Sean Lissemore, DT Brian Schaefering, LB Dan Connor, LB Ernie Sims, LB Brady Poppinga, CB Sterling Moore, CB Michael Coe, S Charlie Peprah, S Eric Frampton.

Six of these guys are not with the team anymore (and that number could increase by tonight), and DeMarcus Ware is the only returning starter. This will indeed be a different team this year.

Cowboys Injury roundup - Calvin Watkins, ESPN Dallas

  • Left guard Ronald Leary will likely return to team practice early next week.
  • Nate Livings is not close to returning.
  • Matt Johnson will also need more time as he deals with an injury that's proven to be more tenacious than the staff expected.
  • Lance Dunbar is out of his protective boot, but it's not clear yet when he'll return to practice.
  • The Cowboys are hopeful Anthony Spencer (knee), Jason Hatcher (groin), and Mackenzy Bernadeau (knee) will practice Monday.

Mo Claiborne: 'I'm ready to play now' - Todd Archer, ESPN Dallas
Claiborne missed three weeks with a jammed knee, but has been back at practice since Monday.

"I’m ready to play now," said Claiborne, "I got a couple of more days to better prepare myself and do a little bit more running. I know we’re going to be running a lot during the game. I don’t think it’s no big deal. It’s definitely football shape that you have to be in."

Dallas Cowboys WR Miles Austin makes it through preseason unscathed - Rainer Sabin, DallasCowboys.com
This may be the most underreported story of the preseason. Miles Austin has made it through OTAs, training camp and three preseason games completely healthy. Sabin writes that Austin changed the way he worked out this offseason, doing more position-specific drills and dedicating more time to rest and recovery.

A healthy Austin, a healthy Witten, and a healthy Bryant to start the season?

New York Giants coach Tom Coughlin wonders who will be healthy enough to practice on Monday - NYPOST.com
Tom Coughlin doesn't know who exactly will be on the practice field on Monday, when the Giants start preparations for the season opener against the Cowboys.

"You’d love to stand up on a bandbox and say ‘Alright, fellas, anybody that makes this team has got to practice, we need to practice.’ But you know what? Sometimes it doesn’t work that way,’’ Coughlin said. "And then you’re scrambling. It’s very difficult to put together the kind of week you need to have when you are at 53 and eight [on the practice squad] and out of the 53 there are three or four of ’em that can’t practice.’’

Even when he's cleared, RG3 and Redskins coach Shanahan can't stay on same page | Fox News
Expect a lot of drama in Washington this season as the clash between Mike Shanahan's hard-nosed style and Robert Griffin's passive aggressive behaviour provide headline fodder throughout the year.
