The Excitement that Comes with the Start of the Season... and the Stress.

  • Each season starts out with roughly the same feel give or take and at least for the past two years each season has ended with the same heart break and with it the same conjectures that "Romo can’t win the big game" or "Rome isn’t a franchise quarterback". Then of course you cant leave out the Jerry bashing or even the Jason Garrett bashing.
  • The one thing about being a fan, or in my case a big fan of the Dallas Cowboys, is amount of stress they bring you on game day. Whether they are suppose to get beat down or lay the beating on the team it always seems to lead to you biting your nails, jumping up and down at the edge of your couch, holding your breath on that last kick or last throw. I could go on and on but I would hope you would understand what I mean.
  • Each year seems to never come easy. It always leaves you stressed out because when you go back to school, work, or maybe even the bar, you have to explain to your buddies that you talked trash to all week what happened why the boys didn’t preform. Or you have to listen to the trash talk on your franchise quarterback or the head coach.
  • However, when you are right, you get the chance to go and wave that I told you so in their face. You are the king and nothing feels better then when you walk back into the place you’ve been talking crap in the past week and all you have to do is look at the people and give them this wide grin without anything being said. They know why and watch them go berserk with excuses.
    • You get what I’m saying though each season is such a roller coaster ride nothing comes easy for these Dallas Cowboys. So what makes this season different from the rest what makes this feeling different than the one I have had the past 3 years.
  • Yes I had a feeling that Dallas was going to go out and turn the world upside down in ‘10 but as we all found out that just wasn’t so with the injury to room and what not. Even then last year I thought well we got the defense against the passing game now, now we can finally dominate our division.
  • Maybe it was the inexperience of my age, maybe it was me just being a naïve 19 year old kid. But either way I am always filled with such hope and I am not shy to go out and blast someone in defense of my favorite team.
  • This year for me seems rather similar to last year to me. Our defense went out and dominated the preseason last year and really they dominated the first quarter of the season. But what really happened to us last year was nothing but terrible luck the injuries derailed a would be contender, the inexperience at head coach seemed to reduce but remained with Jason Garrett.
  • So as I prepare myself for the next hopefully 21 weeks of trash talk and being prepared to defend a team that has outline the word mediocre the past two years, I don’t feel bad for feeling the same as I did last year. In fact, I feel even more confident at that fact.
  • When I reflect back to the rollercoaster that was last year I look at the injuries that I believe surely can’t happen again and can’t plague us for two straight seasons. I see a more seasoned Jason Garrett. I see improved defensive coaching and see a team of leaders that have emerged from a locker room that’s tired of being called mediocre.
  • This team leads me to believe that we can make a play off run. Last year I believed we could have but the difference is I know for a fact this team is better than last years team, talent wise, leadership wise, coaching wise, and disciplined wise.
  • I love the RKG theory because I can’t stand players like T.O or really even the Seahawks (a team filled with thugs, drug users, trash talkers, and as we all remember cheaters). I don’t believe organizations or players like that should be in the leader no matter the talent level its a bad influence on the kids that watch the game.
  • I love the way Jason Garrett has taken charge of his team. Last year I had this thought process that Jason just wasn’t going to shake out. It just wasn’t happening; then I looked at the amount of heart displayed by this team.
  • No matter how bad they had been getting beat down they always fought to get back in the game. It didn’t matter the deficit, 10,17, 21 points. None of it matters come 4th quarter. With 5 minutes left, you knew they had a chance to win the game.
  • You don’t see many teams like that and before Garrett all we had heard about the Dallas Cowboys especially in ‘10 is they just didn’t have any heart. They gave up or they were just collecting a check. There not really any drama coming out of the locker room like there was under Wade Phillips.
  • Now I see articles that are trying to make something out of nothing like on NFL.com. There was an article typed up how Demarco was mad at garret for benching him when in fact Demarco was frustrated at himself. These little difference show to me there’s a change in the locker room and an improvement.
  • Garrett has had 2 season much like what the Great Jimmy Johnson had. I’m not old enough to know what the glory days felt like knowing my team was a dominate force week in week out but I did do my research. Many fans hated Jimmy. They thought he was terrible then after the 3rd year he showed major signs of improvement.
  • So this is year 3 for Garrett. He has used many of the same philosophies that Jimmy did. So can we expect the same results can we expect a Superbowl in the next few years?
  • As a fan you always going to want it you always going to be optimistic, but when you break it down that is a very realistic goal its not out of reach for this team. The picture is becoming clear that after many years of heart break and being talked down too, our time is coming and its coming in a hurry.
  • This year has much promise and it won’t be without its "What were you Tony Romo" moments or the "OMG did you see that escape and throw" or even the "WHY IS HE IN THE NFL, I COULD HAVE CAUGHT THAT PASS," or even "Come on Ref you blew that call."
  • The season starts on Sunday. It satisfies the thing we have been craving the past few months. Our hopes and aspirations have never been higher as they are in week 1. Yet, the picture will begin to form. I believe by week 17 all of us that have been patient with the Cowboys and haven’t jumped ship will be rewarded with quite possibly a week bye and a home game to start the play offs?
  • So break out your Witten jerseys, your face paint, your car decals, your cowboys flag, rearrange your furniture for some fit throwing and some victory celebrations because in week your first taste of this mysterious 2013 Dallas Cowboys will be served. I have a feeling I’m going to, not just like but, love what I see.
