The St. Louis Rams and Dallas Cowboys have faced each other 22 times during the regular season since 1960. They've collided in the post season 8 times. So which team has dominated the other over the last half century? Neither - the regular season record is tied 11-11, and playoff records say the times they've played reads - 4-4. Tied!
Tied, for the love of all that's holy! After last season's "un-win" against the San Francisco 49ers, I never wanted to hear, see, or be in the same hemisphere with the word 'tied"... But here we are, eh? Both the Rams and Cowboys can boast ample talent, to go along with weekly question marks. While St. Louis struggles to master its youth quotient, the Cowboys are trying to find key pieces to enable their veteran team to take that necessary next step toward the post season.
I'm an editor and writer for Turf Show Times, the SBNation site for all things St. Louis Rams. I thought I'd drop in to ask a few questions, and answer a few too.
Before I ask my questions though, I feel I need to get something off my chest. You guys here at Blogging the Boys need to know that O.C.C. and K.D. Drummond are actually closet Rams fans. No, really! I have it on good authority O.C.C. wear Rams underwear, and K.D. is actually the Rams mascot - Rampage - on game days. Weird, eh? Whew! They asked me not to tell anyone, but they made fun of my Yugo. There are lines people just shouldn't cross...
So now that I've got the important stuff out of the way, can anyone tell me why both the Rams and Cowboys are such terrible rushing teams? You've got DeMarco Murray, and we've got the next to last pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. OK, now that I write it out, it does make a bit of sense. Has Murray gotten past his injury foibles? I hope not, since the last time these two teams faced each other, Murray scalded the Rams for a billion yards. Rams fans are liking our chances in the run game though. You see, it's all about the law of averages. No Rams running back on the current roster has EVER scored a touchdown in the NFL. No, not a single one! So it has to happen some time, right?
Tony Romo gets loads of flack from the media every year, and I have to admit some of it seems warranted at times. While he recently signed a humongous contract, how long is the Cowboys' fan-base leash for Romo this season? Is this a make it to the post season or bust year for Tony in the eyes of fans?
Dez Brant appears to be maturing into a great player, just as Miles Austin seems to be sliding into his golden years. I've always been a fan of Austin, but the last two season have tarnished his former glow. Is wide receiver high on the list for the Cowboys in the 2014 NFL Draft? Who do the Cowboys have at WR3? It's been a great position in the past couple years for a unsung player to get noticed.
The Cowboys defense has a new look to it. How does this defensive scheme differ from Rob Ryan's? What positions are strongest? Weakest? Is this defense predicated on heavy blitz packages?
The Cowboys' offensive line has had a couple issues the past couple years. I was shocked by their first round draft pick - Travis Frederick. How's he done after being thrown into the starting line up as a rookie?
I'll be popping in the rest of the week to answer questions, and ask quite a few more too. To make things more interesting, I'll be inviting the Turf Show Times readers to drop in too. Please let me know if any of them forget they're guest here. Here's to a great game, and zero injuries!
