Both Jason Hatcher and Anthony Spencer are free agents. Because Jerry Jones does not believe in wholesale rebuilding years, he will not give up on all three of his best linemen. If Hatcher and Spencer both leave, Ware is safe. If Hatcher or Spencer resign at a level equal to or greater than the historical market, Ware will use their signings to justify his current salary (he has greater history of production and all three are reasonably close in age for comparison). If Hatcher or Spencer resign at a significantly lower salary, the Cowboys will have less incentive to force a confrontation with Ware (they already have some salary cap relief and increased hope of pairing the signed player with Ware). Also, Cowboys will not know their bargaining position until relatively late in free agency and Ware will have no incentive to push the issue. Conclusion, Cowboys return Ware at current salary to ease transition to line featuring returning injured players and 2014 draftees.
