Like many Cowboys fans I have been frustrated with the play at our safety position mainly the free safety position occupied by Jeff Heath. Heath, unfortunately, was thrown into the spot due in large to injury and being an UDFA rookie was not prepared for the mental aspect of the position as well as the speed of the game coming from a lower level of competition. The original candidate for the job was Matt Johnson however due to injury he has not been a reliable asset and people are starting to wonder will we ever see Johnson take the field during the entire preseason let alone a regular season game. JJ Wilcox did make strides towards the end of the season but the ideal fit for him in my opinion is at SS where his physical play can be appreciated. Needless to say the FS position is still a question mark going into the 2014 offseason.
I like many fans follow Brouddus and other scouts who have an eye for NFL talent to figure out where a guy might fit with the Cowboys in order to make this team better and to my surprise a name that came out was not a rookie coming in the draft it was a player already on the roster.
Initially I wasn't in favor of the idea but the more I thought about it the MOORE I like it! (Get it Moore, More haha I laughed don't judge me). Moore began his career with the New England Patriots starting as a practice squad guy and working his way into the starting role in 6 games as the FS of the 2011 Patriots. In 6 games at safety Moore had 2 interceptions returning 1 for a touchdown and 3 PBU's, one of which against Lee Evans saved the Patriots from a playoff home loss against Baltimore. Moore has the coverage skills to play the deep middle as well as play man to man when called upon so I'd like to see him get an opportunity to win the job and solidify the back end of our secondary and allow the front office to focus on the front four. I'm sold on the idea, hopefully I can sell you guys on it too!
