With some of the backlash that I received with my last post, and I'd like to think it was more of a misunderstanding, or me not be clear on what I was suggesting, nonetheless it seems the Ravens have implemented that very same strategy for Terrell Suggs. AKA DeMarcus Ware Baltimore.
Whatever the reason was, people took the numbers at face value, and ran with it. Since, I must not have been clear on what I was suggesting, this article should correct any misunderstandings.
The story is here on ESPN:
Frankly, the similarities are pretty freaky. Not only are they the same age, they mean the same thing to their teams. In addition, both have had their struggles the last couple of years due to injuries. Per the ESPN article:
But Suggs hasn't been the same the past two seasons because of injuries and inconsistent play. He missed half of the 2012 season after tearing his Achilles tendon in the offseason and struggled in the second half of 2013, recording 20 tackles and one sack in the final eight games.
Sounds familiar? Well, with that being said, and don't mind me tooting my own horn a bit, but this is what I have been clamoring for, and honestly, I think needs to happen with Ware. If we were looking to find out what Ware's market value would be out in the free agent market, I think we found it.
Extend Ware, and lower his cap figure. Good idea? Bad idea?
