It is very painful for me to have to say this, but DeMarcus Ware must be cut. As of right now, we are roughly $22,000,000 over the salary cap this year and for 2015 we are currently about $1,000,000 over the cap (based on a similar $130 million cap for 2015). Next year we need to make two huge resigning’s in Tyron Smith and Dez Bryant, and currently we don't have enough money to come close to what they will demand.
Here are the moves that will affect 2015:
The Cowboys designed Romo's extension so they can restructure it this year, however when (and they will) they do that it will push about $3 million more into 2015's cap space.
- · 2014 Cap after Romo Restructure: -$10,000,000
- · 2015 Cap as a result: -$4,000,000
If the Cowboys restructure any more contracts we are in deep trouble for next year, because with every restructure we are pushing more money into the next year. This brings me to the point that DeMarcus Ware must be cut in 2014 and not designated a June 1st cut. If we cut Ware we will get $7,432,250 toward the cap for 2014 and we would gain $17,503,750 in 2015. That $17 million would be more than enough to sign Tyron Smith and Dez Bryant.
This move allows the Cowboys to completely get out of the Cap disaster that has been created over the past few years. If we do not get rid of Ware, it might be near impossible to get out of the Cap situation and resign Smith and Bryant. Eventually the Cowboys need to learn from their mistakes and move on from these hellish contracts they created. It must start now.
