With the release of DeMarcus Ware many are forecasting Henry Melton to arrive in Dallas forthwith. Interesting idea for sure. The "Tampa Two" defense was uber-successful because of pressure up the middle from Warren Sapp. Melton was the "Sapp" type player that drove the Chicago defense. His injury last season in week 3 derailed the Bears defense for the remainder of the season.
The interesting part of this is, if Henry Melton, from U of Texas, born and raised in DFW, ends up a Cowboy, what happens to Aaron Donald? Melton would play the same position as Donald and is only 27 years old. It would seem a poor allocation of resources to draft Donald.
Would this move change the draft focus to OL, FS, LB? or TE? There is unlikely to be a DE worthy of the mid-first round pick. This rumored move makes you think that Dallas would be targeting Martin or Pryor. I think Dallas is going to hold on safety and see what they have with Wilcox, Heath and Johnson.
So my estimate is Dallas will be targetting either Martin (or other OL that drops) or Mosley. An interesting thought is the trade down scenario with a first pick target of UCLA guard Xavier Su'a-Filo. He would secure the valuable right guard spot for years to come and is a nasty, brawler type offensive lineman, adding another valuable piece to a young and developing line.
