Dallas Cowboys News & Notes: What If Aaron Donald Gets Picked Early?

"Dude, that's not funny." - Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

Latest Dallas Cowboys headlines for your Sunday morning reading pleasure.

Pre-Free Agency Mock Draft - Rotoworld.com
Evan Silva presents a mock with what could well become a trend over the next few weeks: Aaron Donald is gone by the time the Cowboys are on the clock. Silva has the Cowboys picking a linebacker instead, Alabama ILB C.J. Mosley.

The Cowboys plan to move incumbent Mike 'backer Sean Lee to Will in an effort to task Lee with fewer physically challenging situations and preserve his health. He's missed 15 games over the past two years. Bruce Carter will move to Sam. Mosley is a middle linebacker through and through with sideline-to-sideline range, powerful hands, and plus pass-coverage skills. Mosley would solidify the second level of Dallas' defense, which was the most porous in football last season.

Cowboys' Twitter mailbag: Should Cowboys trade up for Donald? - Todd Archer, ESPN Dallas
With interest in Donald increasing, Archer argues that the Cowboys should not trade up for Donald, or anybody else for that matter.

I like Donald a lot. I think the Cowboys like him a lot, too, but I don’t know that for sure. We’ll get a better feel for this as the draft gets closer. He certainly fills a need and is a playmaker. They need a lot of those guys on defense. I say all that, but I wouldn’t trade up to get him. I’m not trading up for anybody really. They can’t give away a ton of picks with the holes they must address in the draft. That’s my opinion.

But we don’t know how other teams feel about Donald. Some might be scared off a little because of his height. Some might have some other concerns. He had a great Senior Bowl and a great combine after a great season at Pitt. I think the Cowboys are in a good position to grab him, but if not there will be other players who can help them this year at No. 16.

Success in 4-3 scheme depends on how club addresses defensive line needs | Brandon George, Dallas Morning News
George points out that the Cowboys may have to rebuild almost their entire defensive line this year, depending on what they do with Ware, Hatcher and Spencer. Possible free agency targets could be Seattle's Clinton McDonald, Chicago's Henry Melton and Chicago's Corey Wootton, according to George.

What Cowboys can do to avoid 2013's draft-day confusion | Rainer Sabin, DMN
Sabin offers up the umpteenth rehash of the Floyd kerfuffle on draft day in 2013. We'll be hearing about this one for a long, long time, which makes you wonder whether the half-life of these stories is even longer than that of carbon-14.

Examining the contract status of Cowboys star tackle Tyron Smith - CBSSports.com
Tyron Smith is a stud. But should he force the contract issue at this point? Jason La Canfora breaks down the strategy the star Cowboys tackle should pursue, arguing that Smith shouldn't be in any hurry for extension, as every day that passes could increase the size of his next contract - and it'll be a big one.

Miles Austin marries girlfriend Stacy Sydlo; Cowboys serve as groomsmen | Larry Brown Sports

Here Are 39 Things You Should Do In Texas Before You Die | KERA News
This list is full of stuff I've never heard about, but it ranks checking out the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders’ locker room during a tour of AT&T Stadium a lowly No. 26. Scandalous.
