The 2014 draft is in the books. With the quiet period now before mini-camps and training camp, all we are left to do learn more about our draft picks, OR waste our time looking at what could have been. Well, call me stupid, but I'm going to waste a second talking about second.
While many of us are excited about the prospects of Demarcus Lawrence, it is universally agreed that we "gave up" value in the trade. Many of us say "Oh, we could have gotten more value by staying put and taking a combo such as Ealy and Nix, or Jernigan and Kareem Martin (etc.)". I generally tend to feel the same way.
But a recent interview with Stephen Jones with the season ticket holders has shed some light on who we would have actually taken. During the course of the interview (a good listen that shows how the FO views the players they recently got), Stephen says that had they not traded up, they most likely would have taken Kony Ealy in the 2nd and Trai Turner in the 3rd. This is even after they drafted Zach Martin in the first round.
If this is true, then I'm not sure that I like it. Sure that would have been a great haul for our offense line, but I have trouble believing that both Martin and Turner would start. I personally viewed turner as a 4th or 5th round pick, a back up for at the beginning of his career with potential to start down the line. I'm also not too bullish on Ealy and I like Lawrence a lot more than him. But I can see how this would be an appealing option.
With that said, I wanted to know what the BtB community thinks about the trade now that this information has been released. Converse!
