(I originally posted this in the Fanshot section yesterday because the content is not directly related to the X’s and O’s of football, front office wheeling and dealing or player performance. However, I feel that as a Fanpost it will reach more people and if I’m going to champion a cause, the more the merrier.)
I am a proponent of having a well rounded sense of humor and appreciate the ability of those clever enough to quip, pun or spoof their way to a good laugh. Having said that, I feel this must be said unequivocally; Stop calling Gavin Escobar "Pablo."
Firstly, it’s not funny, clever or in any way original.I feel it’s tantamount to myriad of Tony Romo detractors replacing the "R" in his last name with an "H. Please bear with me a moment whilst I catch my breath. It’s simply the most clever and hilarious thing I have ever heard. Wow, to think that a person could actually think of that just fills me with the great promise of humanities future. Hopefully you found that bursting with sarcasm instead of merely oozing it.
Secondly, I have little doubt he would find it offensive and those of you who engage in trying to label him with this unfortunate nickname would never, ever say it to his face because you know deep down it’s true. Pablo Escobar was a dirt bag, a criminal and a complete degenerate of a human being. while he may not have been directly linked, he is widely believed to have orchestrated several homicides.
Now, whether or not you believe in Gavin’s ability or that he was worth a 2nd round draft pick is not a good reason to disrespect the man. He is a human being first and is working his butt off as a member of our Dallas Cowboys and that alone should afford him a measure of appreciation and patience.
Finally, I want to say that I am not in any way singling out any individuals. I respect the BTB community a great deal and I feel strongly that this behavior does not reflect well on the site or on fans of The Dallas Cowboys as a whole. Thank you for taking the time to read this and feel free to pass along the message if you feel so inclined.
