If the Cowboys swing a trade the club will be hit with a 32.5 million cap hit in 2014. Because the 20 million of Romo’s 25 million signing bonus from last season and the 12.5 million bonus he just received to restructure accelerates forward.

That’s much bigger than the 11.7 million hit the team currently absorbs with Romo on the roster for 2014. Trading him now would require another round of cutting and restricting contracts simply to have room to sign Manziel and the current rookie class.
