Cowboys Pick At #16 In The 2014 NFL Draft: What 27 Mock Drafts Say About It

Debby Wong-USA TODAY Sports

On the eve of the 2014 draft, let's take a "wisdom of crowds" approach to the Cowboys first pick at #16.

It's almost here, the 2014 draft gets started Thursday night in New York City. The Dallas Cowboys own pick #16 in the first round and we've been obsessing about who they might choose for four months. Now that the moment is almost here, let's do a "wisdom of crowds" approach to the pick and survey 27 different mock drafts to see who the Cowboys will choose.

Below is a sortable table with the answers. We'll do some top line summaries.

The most popular player with 6 mentions is FSU defensive tackle Timmy Jernigan. Most mocks see Aaron Donald off the board at the Cowboys pick, and despite the recent drug test mess, 6 mocks still believe the Cowboys will go with the the generally agreed upon second-best defensive tackle in the draft. Although there is one pick for Ra'Shede Hageman.

The next most-popular choice is a tie between the aforementioned Aaron Donald and Anthony Barr. But in three of the picks for Donald, the Cowboys had to trade up (twice to #8 and once to #13). So mocks with trades favored the Cowboys jumping up to get Donald. Otherwise, they selected Anthony Barr.

After that, there is a three-way tie between OL Zack Martin and safeties Calvin Pryor and HaHa Clinton-Dix. Each player was picked in two separate mocks.

The rest were one pick each for C.J. Mosley, Taylor Lewan, Kony Ealy and Louis Nix.

In all, the drafts had 13 picks at defensive tackle, six picks at defensive end, four at safety, three at offensive line and one at linebacker.

So based on the wisdom of crowds, it's most likely Timmy Jernigan, next up is Aaron Donald (if the Cowboys go bold) or Anthony Barr. Your thoughts BTB?
