Passion of the Draft

There is one word that I think of when I think of this draft.. Passion.

There are always going to be hatters. The haters that hated this draft are the ones that go to NFL.com and read
that one player has a 3rd round grade of 7.28, so WTF are the Cowboys doing taking a guy with a 5.21 ( 7th round)
grade in the 4th round?

I will refer to these guys as Scooby snacks ( yes, I'm referencing Scooby Wright) These guys don't sit there and watch every bit of possible tape that you can find on a player, they only complain when they see a guy with a 2nd round grade not be picked up by the Cowboys in the 5th.

I'm obviously not a scout, but I watch EVERYTHING! I will look up a wide receivers VS. tape, just so I can watch an O-line guy , etc. etc. I'm not trying to say I should be an NFL scout, but I like to think I know better than guys that only rely on what NFL.com, ESPN.com are telling them.

I digress...

What I really want to say is that I am extremely happy with the results from this draft. This was a very weak draft, but
I believe we still came out smelling like roses. I do think we were cock-blocked more than a few times in this draft, but we did not panic and we still hit on players that have a good chance at really being a part of this team.

We are still going to miss on probably 35%-40%, but that is still a little bit less then what the average is.

Without going into details on which players I liked and which ones I don't, I'm just going to say that there is one thing that all of these players have ( I don't know about the TE, simply because he has not played, because he seemed to carry it on the basketball court) is PASSION.

These guys LOVE to play football, and it shows every single time they make a play. It shows on a DE that is willing to run down a guy that is considerably faster, it shows on RB that cries after he wins the National Championship, it shows on a DT after he makes a tackle in the backfield.

Not only did we draft guys that love to play the game, but we also drafted guys that have top 'measurables'
at their positions.

The most difficult thing to scout in a prospect is what is going on 'in between the ears', so the smartest way to approach that is to try to do your homework on the player, but more importantly .. just watch how they respond on the football field.

With what was available in this draft, this is actually my favorite Cowboys draft in a while. I know.. we did not pick up that 7.8 that you really wanted, but if you go back and watch all of the tapes possible, we picked up guys that want to play hard and lead.

I would suggest, if you don't watch any tape at all, how about you don't comment on what you think they should have done? It only makes sense, right? If we want your opinion, we can just go see what Mel Kipper said.
